Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

@cbrTodd I think you are right. I re-looked at the pic of the truck on the trailer and the rearmost bed section does appear shortened. Ok, so the M36 chassis is back in the running as a possibility ;-)

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

When you get around to it, I'd be curious to see pics of how they joined the frames...welded/plated, one hopes. The frame ought to be boxed, too, where the knuckleboom is going to sit. The truck is a winch truck, so it does have a PTO, but does it have a rear facing one as well, to run a...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

I'd say it's a frame stretched M35. Apparently, to accommodate both a full size 14ft bed and the knuckleboom. While I like it, I am wondering why they didn't stretch a 5 ton. The Deuce doesn't have the oomph or weight carrying capacity to really use the bigger bed. Maybe they had a particular...

Brake Bleeding w/ Remote Master Cylender

I assume you adjusted the brakes after you replaced the wheel cylinders? There is not a whole lot of fluid in the system and brakes even mildly out of adjustment can extend piston travel in the wheel cylinders to the point of a low pedal.

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

Let me state the obvious: No Deuce I ever looked at, came with anything useful in the bed, let alone a fri**n knuckleboom crane! No, I am not jealous, it just looks that way. Honest. Your cargo bed is off a 5ton, not a Deuce. The front corners are the giveaway. Your wheel base is wayyyy longer...

    1969 Kaiser M35A2 No Crank-No Dash Power

I'd start with the 4 screws that hold the gauge panel and provide the ground for all the gauges! My vote is corroded grounds. Also check out this post: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/deuce-will-not-start-after-several-years-of-sitting.193793/ Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Looks spiffy, Dipstick! Can you come and locate a wheel lug nut for me? I dropped the spare tire down from the carrier onto my asphalt driveway. The two nuts jumped off the wheel where I had put them. I found one. The second one...AWOL. I raked, I swept. I stared at the ground like an...

Brake Bleeding w/ Remote Master Cylender

Absolutely. Not. There is always a 5 ton and an MTVR or a HEMTT! Now THAT would possibly be crazy!

Brake Bleeding w/ Remote Master Cylender

No, you did not damage the air pack. You "can" bleed the brakes the way you described (no brake air pressure) because it is a hydraulic system after all and there is a mechanical connection between the brake pedal and the master cylinder. However, given the length of the lines and potential air...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Tractor protection valve is part of the truck (tractor) air brake system, not on the trailer. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Dipstick, you need to make me one! :-) I looked underneath the battery box the other day and the piece looks.....distressed. I pretend I didn't see it.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Symmetry and the beauty of over-engineered luxury are also valid reasons to attach things more securely than just the breaking strength of a bolt! (says the guy with the trailer hitch made from half inch armoured steel)

Converting back to soft top– questions.

I'd call the vendors and ask. Mike's, Erik's, member Country, etc. Chances are, one of them will have exactly what you need. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

    Air pack rebuild kits

Worth it? For sure. It is a nice afternoon project. I have only rebuilt one air pack, step by step, and it was not difficult. At least I know it is done right. With the "new" ones these days you don't know what kind of shelf Queen you get for 500 bucks, that sat somewhere since 1995, with the...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

@Merc1973 I switched to the taller tires and I would not go back. The key are the rims, IMHO. If you can snag a set of two-piece rims, it makes mounting/unmounting of the tires so much easier than with the stock split ring rims. In a pinch, you can even swap a tire on the truck, without...

    M35A2 J pipe

For that price and subsequent hassle, it seems that starting at a muffler shop to check whether they can bend one might be a worthwhile alternative. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

DodgeTX New 1962 Studebaker M35a2 Multifuel repair and build thread

@DodgeTX How do you deal with the relatively low weight of the Deuce when you are winching other trucks of almost equal weight (such as the Ryder box truck in your pic) ? I find that staying on solid ground helps where I can chock the front wheels. But, generally, on unpaved ground the winch...
