mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

As a general rule 1/3 of the fuel burned goes to power, 1/3 goes out the exhaust and 1/3 goes out with the cooling system. Then there is some radiated by the block, etc. Now the 1/3 that is power goes to the gen and the gen also rejects some heat. Professional enclosures will draw outside air...

    Generator prices

That's pretty crazy! No matter what angle you look at it. Could buy several at different locations and have them shipped. Bidders not willing to let it go. I go to a lot of auctions and often see units re-listed. My 802A was a relist and I got it for much less. I bet GL pulls your bidding...

    10 kw generator mep 803a

Fuse mod is for the 803A as well as the 802A. Highly recommend it to avoid having to replace the generator end due to control overload. Easy mod.

    mep 16b & 701 replacement filters

Good find on the Stratus filter. I'll have to check that out. Carquest 86516 fits the existing fuel filter housing just fine and it is around $10. Why did you change the filter base?

Which one to keep MEP-016d or MEP-016b?

Unless that propane generac has a car engine in it then I would go for the 016B simply because the lawnmower engine based generacs and the EU2000's as nice as they are, and I really like them, won't give you the fuel economy or longevity that the 016B can. I always recommend diversity in the...

Which one to keep MEP-016d or MEP-016b?

The B is more heavy duty and will be much longer lived if ever needed to run for many hours on end. It's better in every way except size and portability and the electric start only. If I was not concerned about moving it and I was confident that I could either keep the battery up or be able to...

    MEP-952B Anyone get one?

I'm not sure what all they were or are used in. There are pics of them mounted on tracked personnel carriers on the Dewey Electronics site. Dewey bought out GBI who made the 952B and Dewey supports them. I do have the manual on it but other than that there is like zero info on them. Non...

    MEP-952B Anyone get one?

G/L had 28 of them at Tobyhanna, PA. I managed to get a couple 8). 28vdc/ 5kw. Odd looking. Kinda cool, I guess. Any one use one of these or also get one? If someone wants to run them down I-81 (part way or all the way) for me I can kick in $'s for fuel. I won't have any room for more...

    Exhaust Pipe size

That's a good idea. If you leave the down turn on it and connect to it going back up then drilling a 1/8 hole in the bottom of your addition will let rain drain. Not a bad idea with or without the flapper. Just putting the noise up in the air will help some, not to mention smell.

    MEP-701A Fuel Cutoff Shutoff

Not the aux float (on top) but the low fuel float on the bottom. The connectors on the plug at the solenoid - common issue and standard female spade ends will fit. The relay on the control board - not likely The solenoid itself A ground malfunction The master switch - not likely Using the metal...

Bad Military Surplus Generator Advice Online

Yeah, and the same goes for the e-bay ads. "It SEEMS to be general government policy that good condition, serviceable equipment that is turned into the DRMO is to be left outside in the elements until it turns into an absolute pile of ****, and THEN it is sold at auction." This seems to be the...

    MEP-016 family?

Never. Not even a bad diode or an end bearing. I once had an 016B gen apart and laid out next to a 3kw pow'r gard gen end taken apart. The difference in the overall size, gage of wire, weight is more than 2:1. The rotor difference is probably 3:1. The separate exciter rotor section on the...

    MEP-016B Engine Control board issues

BTW thank you for reporting the voltage output of the A/C side of the dc regulator. I'm working on making a substitute dc regulator to make it more robust and about a third the cost of the bad mil spec unit that is subject to failure. I replace one last weekend and i could see where the...

    MEP-016B Engine Control board issues

Well, I think the A3CR8 diode may be bad on the control board. If it failed to a short or leaky condition then that would explain the backfeed to A1K1. Was it possible that you were measuring running field voltage at the A1K1? If A3CR8 was shorted then the field would have to go quite high...

Burnt wiring inside control panel of MEP-701A

Quite possibly. The fuel solenoid draws fair power. Also, the 7.5A DC circuit breaker on the front of the panel should protect the wiring. So it might be stuck closed. Back to the wiring. First stranded wire should always be used on any vibrating equipment not solid core wire. The PVC insulated...

    MEP-701a / MEP-016b wiring diagram?

Page 94 is just the schematic for the control box components. It does not include any of the engine or frame mounted items. It ends at J1/P1 which is the big plug on the back of the control box. Never the less it is a very useful diagram once inside the box. Page 95 is the diagram and it does...

    MEP-016B Engine Control board issues

To go any further I need to get up to speed on the flash / crank circuit. The pop makes me wonder if the left hand control board has suffered one or more diode failures. I think there are a bunch of current reversal protection diodes that act as fuses if the battery is connected backwards. Maybe...

    MEP-016B Engine Control board issues

In the original configuration the field should flash when the starter is engaged. I think this is the reason the starter engages when you mannually flash the field. Field flash current is backfeeding the starter solenoid. Probably want to keep this feature, flashing during cranking. I would...

    MEP-701 / MEP-016 Glow Plug

Here is what I do: Flip the lid open on the box to get to the electrical diagram. This is the only diagram that includes the wiring outsid ethe box. From that point the float wires can be identified and traced back to the large terminal strip in the box. Then with a meter on the terminal screw...

    MEP-701 / MEP-016 Glow Plug

Hi, here is how to get the stuck pump out. Bolt the pump back in place. Remove the delivery valve on top of the pump output and be very careful handling the parts. The surfaces are lapped absoutely flat and must not be scratched or damaged. Now you are looking down into the pump and staring at...
