    1984 CUCV question?

For sure don’t scrap it. We need a little more information and or some pictures to be of much help too. This thread will probably end up getting move to a different part of the site as soon as a moderator reads this.

    Yes it has been done.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Thanks for the offer. My filter housing is ok as far as I know. I plan to leave things alone and see what my mpg and driving experiences average out to. But, if I need to make more changes the direction to look right now is for a Banks 6.9/7.3 turbo. Bigger and with a wastegate.

    M1008 surging at idle

Yes, that is the common progression with them.

    M1008 surging at idle

No damage. Just realize your IP is a ticking time bomb. I had one with almost the same issues. I did an IP rebuild and all is better for 11 years now.

    Hard Start Issue

The CDR valve deals with oil consumption and venting the blow by back into the incoming air charge. It has nothing to do with starting the engine. You can pull the intake manifold off and the engine will start no different.

Location of Climate Control Light Bulb

I’m pretty sure it is on the defrost end and just twist lockers into place.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

No problem. I share your aversion to heat. I spent most of my high school years trying to keep a 1967 Austin Cooper S alive. Heat, it always comes down to too much heat. The Mini is currently in pieces while I wait for the machine shop to do some work. Heat again a few years ago. Which...

    Replacement Alternators

1976 Cadillac had the Delco 27SI alternator. That is the size case but Cadillac didn’t have isolated ground. Whatever you do don’t turn in your originals as a core. I purchased a kit off ebay a few months ago and it worked fine. Forum member Tow4 at one time also sold kits. Sending him a PM...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Time for some more updates. A year ago on a cross country trip I experienced some high Exhaust Gas Temperature readings at high speeds on steep grades. I wrote a lot about it in this thread and started with timing changes to make things better. Which they did. I have not messed with the IP...

    Bumpers

Post #165 in this thread is where I write about it: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m1007-cucv-suburban-clone-build-thread.74514/page-9 Basically, it can be done. However, to get the full weight rating for the pintle hook I think it will be very tough in a M1009 due to the fuel tank...

    Glow Plug Resistors

It isn't in the way unless you like pulling the vacuum pump or messing with the oil psi sender. So, it can stay on the truck for the original look if you like. Having written that I pulled the non used resistor off both of my M1009 trucks and wired my M715 just like a CUCV without the...

    Engine roughness when stopped

I have a NV4500 behind the 6.2 non turbo engine in my M715. Same basic weight as a M1009 but totally different gears. 5.87 compared to the 3.08. I have to agree that the 4L80E is much better for driving with a low power engine. Especially with any kind of load or trailer. Plus, the NV4500...

    Hard Start Issue

Sorry, I took too long to write the same thing you already discussed.

    Hard Start Issue

It reads like two different issues. Possible glow plug or two or three bad to cause the greasy white smoke and rough start up. Then is reads like fuel is either not getting to your IP or is leaking from your IP once it gets there and the IP lost its prime. Here is the dilemma. You need the...

    Starter blowing fuses.

A power probe won't push the starter or solenoid to work. They aren't made for that kind of a load. It will let you test the power to the big stud and if the purple wire on the small S terminal is getting power to the solenoid when the key is put into the start position. That is the kind of...

    Engine roughness when stopped

My cooler is hooked up different than yours if I understand what you wrote correctly. I have radiator cooler to a stand alone cooler and then back to the transmission. 100° outside running down the highway locked my transmission control module tells me the fluid is 166° to 168°. I have...

    Engine roughness when stopped

Glad the issue went away. Where to set the 4th gear lock up is a question I have been playing with for a while on my 4L80E in my 6.5 powered Suburban. When I first started driving the truck I set it to 44 because a lot of my daily commute is in 45, 50 and 55 speed zones. Need to get that...

    Cold start test

How did it do? Mine fired up like it was summer time yesterday morning at 25°.

    Engine roughness when stopped

I don't have a tailwheel endorsement either. But I want one. Back to the truck issue. When I first read your original post my thought process went to idle speed just a hair too low. Others had jumped in with torque converter thoughts and I didn't post anything. Reading through the thread...
