M35A3 Allison 653 - has anyone done it?

I know a yard near me that has two Canadian built M35 with the Detroit Diesel "Fuel Pincher" and the Allison 643. The Detroits do not run but I do not think the trannys were touched. This could be a good starting point...all the mounts and connections are made to fit the Deuce chassis. As you...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

It is also a good time to put a bit of air tool oil into the air pack, either through the little plug on the back if it can be motivated to come out, or loosen the J pipe and put it in there.

That's also based upon that precision instrument in the gauge cluster made by the lowest bidder. Just saying... Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

Civvy wiper upgrade (arms and blades) - need ideas

There are also Anco blade connectors that are a tad too narrow for the clip. They twist inside the clip and break it. Then the stupid wiper blade sits on the window sideways or falls right out. Are you sure you're using the right ones? Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Aren't you the optimist! Seriously, I think you are very diligent in your planning and the follow-up to your work. After I re-ringed mine and honed the liners, it initially ran with no blowby but developed minor blowby soon thereafter. Annoying, yes, but I chalk it down to the design more...

    New acquisition: M35A3

Looks good. Late model one-colour tarp as well. Clean truck. As for the tires, if they are the 14.5 tires that were on the truck originally and have sat flat for any length of time, please read about the safety concerns around M35A3 tires. Several blow-outs have occurred with them, especially...

coolant leak coming from fording hole

I agree with Slate and would suspect a leak much higher up and the coolant simply dripping from the lowest point where it collects.

Glad to see that you have it back together and she seems to be running as she should. The power issue you can take care of with the pyro and setting the fuel accordingly. Mine is not at all turned up to the edge of sanity and it makes more than enough ooomph!

M35A3 won't shift out of first gear in Drive

Your mileage may vary but I would buy this truck as-is, neglected for 10 years, not serviced and with a dead tranny, essentially undriveable, and make my offer to the seller accordingly (a tranny rebuild is an easy 5k if you have to outsource it). Then I would get the truck home and THEN I would...

    Got another deuce! (Dropside!)

Doesn't look half bad and there is no puddle underneath. Looks like a good start! That tailgate needs a BFH and some heat.

Good hitch for pulling non-military trailers.

This looks like a well designed and well made setup. Thanks for posting the pics!

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Installed the shifter boots (Jatonka; look and fit great), installed a metal cell phone holder (for a motorcycle handle bar) on my passenger grab bar and ran the 12V supply to it. The holder has a USB port on the side so you can charge your phone while it is in the cradle. Also installed a 12V...

You can use your favourite coffee brand's tin can (and shoot it across the yard when you forget to take it off before startup) OR put on a nice flapper. I did the latter after doing the former one time too many!

Question about air assist power steering kits for m35... shelf life ???

Air assist installation instructions are here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?122674-Air-O-Matic-Air-Assist-Steering-Instructions-Scanned-Blue-Prints-12132493-amp-12430289

What did you do to your deuce this week?

The issue is that unequal load on the batteries causes premature battery death. Hooking up a phone charger to one battery is probably ok, but if you want lights, a radio etc. you need a 12V inverter or a second alternator. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk
