    Successful Deuce Recovery

This morning I got both Flaming River Battery Lockout switches installed; each has provisions for locks to be placed on them to prevent starting/running. I plan on installing the negative ground wires for both my 24V & 12V circuits to each of these switches. Tomorrow I plan on running to NAPA...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

The hard part is done; I HATE removing old gaskets on these trucks! Scraping RTV is easier than removing some of the old Deuce gaskets. It will go just fine, especially with Tom's recommendation of Permatex to hold the gaskets in place while you reinstall everything. How nice to actually...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

The measurements (in inches) are written on the cardboard template in the photos above...I just cut them from an old metal splashguard I purchased from M16TY.

    Successful Deuce Recovery

In between working on Airbornebandsman's M109 conversion, I've managed to get the inner hub seals installed, reinstalled the drums with flipped hubs, put in the new outer seals (modified courtesy Gringeltaube's method), buttoned everything up, and filled the "new" differential with NAPA Premium...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

Balderdash. You're just fixing the problem and making right what someone else couldn't, that's all. Take your time and do it right, you have enough headaches already. Keep up the good work, the interior looks great! [thumbzup]

    super single wheels and tires

Calvin, that wrecker looks good! I believe you should be able to fit the HEMMT wheels on your 5-ton hubs, those tires will easily fit in your truck's wheelwells...IIRC, you can run up to 16.00x20 tires on your wrecker. Any luck finding wheels/tires?

    GL new website

As a previous poster stated, you must Login in order to see the changes. Clicking on ads, clearing cache/history/etc... won't work, you need to LOGIN to see the changes. FWIW, I like the changes and the new layout; seems easier to find what I'm looking for, especially stuff involving my...

    GL new website

Looks the same to me...I've tried typing their URL all sorts of different ways, but the same old site keeps coming up for me. ????

    M113s and Variants in Vietnam

Look like Australian International ACCOs, 6x6 even. Pretty rugged trucks, popular in the 60s and 70s Down Under.

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

Well unfortunately I didn't have time to prime the van body; I only managed to get the final paint bits stripped off very late the last night when it was supposed to be done, so Airbornebandsman could pick it up for mechanical repairs. I didn't get the final paint portions stripped off until...

Shaking Down an Old Deuce and New Deuce Owner

You mentioned having difficulty with your initial shifts until the trans fluid warms up...what type of lubricant are you using in it? I drained & refilled mine with Valvoline Synthetic 75W-90 from NAPA (Part #975). It is GL-4 & MT-1 compliant, and is very friendly with yellow metal parts. I...

    Rear Differential Problem?

I just replaced the forward rear axle in my Deuce; when I drained the lubricant from it, 3 large metal shards were sticking to the magnetic drain plug....so I tore the whole thing down to check for damage. I found that the entire axle had been rebuilt recently but not tagged; it even had...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

Here are some pics of the inside of the van I just took this morning (sorry for the early-morning sun glare). This gave plenty of room to work with the wiring, adding grommets to the holes for the wires, etc... Also is a close-up of the power distribution block I installed for the power wires...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

WOW, that looks great! Yep, Mik, his wife, and I tore apart the interior to access the wiring inside...I just didn't think to take photos of it! I'll remedy that tomorrow. Here are some more photos of our progress lately. My neighbor (who I'm friends with) has been out of work for 8 months...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

Thanks Mik, I'm sure you will! The hardest part is overcoming hesitation; just jump in and do it! I enjoy our time together, you'll be missed...but you'll be better off in San Antonio and will find plenty of new friends there in no time! Got the 2 front brackets completely welded in today...

    Airbornebandsman's M109 Conversion

Mik & I were busy today on the van body. I got most of the interior wiring completed for his rotating warning beacon lights, as well as fabricated up 4 mounting brackets for the beacons. I used another splash guard I purchased a while back from M16TY for these brackets, but first the paint had...
