    transfer drain plug leak

Hey guys, I recently changed all my fluids, and now I have a slow leak out of the drain plug on the transfer case. I tightened the plug up some more yesterday and that slowed it more, but its still slowly leaking (very slow now - like a few drips overnight). I didn't want to tighten it...

    tansmission fluid change question

Thanks, it ended up taking about exactly 6 quarts in the tranny, 5 in the t-case - so almost 3 gallons total.

    tansmission fluid change question

I just finished replacing all the fluids in my m1028. All went well I think but have two quick questions 1. i replaced the trans filter, and didn't pay attention when I took the old one off, but when I put the new one on, I realized that that spacer that goes over the bolt inbetween the...

    Brake pads/shoes

ok, thanks, i'll definitely do all that eventually. there is nothing at all currently wrong with my brakes, they work awesome, I'm just thinking ahead for when I replace them. I'm always amazed when I'm driving with a heavy load, how the brakes seem to work just about as good as with no load...

    fluids change

Hey guys, couple more quick questions. for the oil pan, the TM says those with a ridged lip will have a gasket and those with a flat lip will have RTV sealant. So, does the m1028 have a ridged lip or flat lip? similar question - with the front and rear axle. do the differential...

    Brake pads/shoes

Hi all, this may be a silly question, but does anyone recommend a specific brand or type of break pads/shoes for the 1008/1028? I haul a lot of wood and sometimes across a mountain and want the brakes to work as well as possible!!!! Thanks!

    Quarry impressed with cucv

Hey guys, just thought I would share a quick story. I've been putting in a very large french drain around my house, and filled most of the trench with gravel (57 size). In total I put in about 45 tons of gravel - and of that at least 12 tons I hauled in my m1028 from the Quarry. When I got...

    1008 speed and MPG

I have a 1028 (mostly the same as the 1008) I never drive over 50mph in it I average about 16mpg - max ever was 19mpg on a highway trip driving exactly 50mph most of the time. lowest ever was 13mpg - but that was mostly hauling firewood and using 4wd a lot I think the fuel economy with...

pretty decent fuel mileage I'm thinkin'

20mph is good for an old truck. we had a 2004 sedan that got that about 20 mph with normal driving - and thats a newish car - not an old truck ! This June I got 19mpg in my 1028 on a 150mile trip driving exactly 50 mph the whole time (except for slowing down to stop and start of course)...

    Transmission question

Hey guys, I just got a 91 chevy 1500 Z71 4x4 truck on a trade that I'm going to give to my dad. The truck has just over 200k miles on it but has a pretty new reman 350 in it. The guy said that it had a 700r4 tranny in it. My dad is going to do some towing (nothing huge, just junk cars)...

    Very simple spare tire question

Thanks guys! I've seen the picture in the TM, but couldn't tell which way was up. Must not matter, but putting the valve stem down makes sense. and yes, the spare is all pumped up and ready to roll. except for the fact that if you touch it you get absolutely covered in black - what is...

    Very simple spare tire question

Hey guys, I did a search but I think my question is too dumb to have ever been asked before :) I'm heading out on a trip in the cucv (m1028) tomorrow and thought i should probably mount the spare tire back up (removed it to monkey around with the bumper). I can't remember which side is up -...
