I've been avoiding it for years in the interest of keeping the vehicle original - but I guess I probably should break down and look into getting a spin-on adapter from my Detroit dealer. The cartridge filter is kind of a PIA to change in any case.
@ODdave -
My son toyed with the idea of a 5 cylinder Mercedes swap for his Jeep CJ6A. He eventually decided to stick with an oddfire V6 gas engine (later and larger than the OEM 225). But the ready availability of the Merc. engines in our local U-Pick junkyards - along with their performance...
My partner / brother-in-law is a diesel guru - he builds the Scorpion rock crawlers and their military variants. He chose the 4BT as standard power for the full-size Scorpion - but he converted his own M37 to diesel using a Nissan engine. Butt-loads of torque - compared to the OEM engine. I...
Is the M38 fuel/vacuum pump the same one as used on the CJ3A? I have a 49 3A that was an interim National Guard vehicle - puchased out of PDO before GL screwed the pooch. It picked up quite a few M38 parts while it was in service - as many "hodgepodge" Jeeps did. I switched over to a...
The original troop seat belts are getting harder to find – though they do show up on eBay on occasion. Several companies make a belt of similar construction (a simple black clip-in lap belt) that will work – though most of them tend to be longer than the originals. Look for something similar to...
I suspect something <BAD> must have happened in Russ's life, to cause him to drop the maintenance of the site, since he was so devoted to it over the years. I was authorized as a moderator on Gamagoat.com - though I only occasionally acted as moderator, because of my busy schedule. I only spoke...
I also use the Baldwin PT11 - a direct crossover for the GM 5574978. The only issues I have had with the stock oil filter are the unavoidable mess at the filter when changing oil, and the occasional leak at the low-end gasket on the filter. The filter is mounted at a low point on the engine - so...
I drive my Gama Goat (6WD with 4-wheel steering) on the street - and even though the steering is 100% mechanical, getting a "feel" for steering at road speeds is definitely a learning experience. I have heard that the rare 4-wheel-steer version of the Scorpion rock crawler is the only one that...
As KsM715 says - the shelter is a regular Gichner S-250/G - with a mod tag for some kind of radio gear. There are a lot of variations in antenna mounts, cable holes, etc. that really aren't important unless you're trying to set up a shelter with all the original electronic gear for some...
Soni showed up with his M920 on Saturday - towing a monster gooseneck trailer, as well as a smaller military lube service trailer. The small trailer is based on the M416 chassis - and is now converted into a trail camper. The big truck can make 80 MPH - but Soni slowed to around 65 in the areas...
Verra, Verra nice equipment. The pic made me a little bit jealous of the guy that gets to ski with that at his side. Almost made me want to pop green smoke...
My April '88 copy of SB 11-131 ("Vehicular sets and authorized installations") covers the M925 - but doesn't specifically list the A2 model. Radios listed are AN/VRC-46, -64 and AN/GRC-160. The PLRS Surface Vehicle Unit is also authorized. Installation kits that would list specific antenna...
Unless you're showing your truck at an MVPA show as a 100% original restoration, I don't think anyone will fault you for using a strap of the wrong width. I make my own straps for my trucks - the webbing (in both cotton and nylon) is readily available in various widths, as are buckles and the...

Lists your NSN 2540-00-968-4060 as a 1.5 wide x 53 inches long Jerry can strap. I didn't look up the other NSN - but I would guess you have the numbers reversed.
I use 400 Hz motor-generators and diesel gensets on a daily basis at work - and they're so dependable, I'd frankly be surprised if the one you have is inoperable, considering how few hours are on the clock. We recently purchased a used Kato mogen unit with 30,000 hours on it. It works just fine...
There are plenty of other options available to you - you should be able to pick up something appropriate from an electronic surplus store. First - you need to determine how much power (in Watts) you will need to run your radio gear. Then - try a Google search for "DC-DC Converter 12 24" (or 12...
Here's a file shot of Soni's truck from our website:
I understand that the truck can be a little bit tough to bobtail, since he's re-powered with a Cummins Signature 600 engine, with 600 HP. Because of the increase in HP over the OEM engine, he swapped in a Fuller Road Rambler transmission -...
Soni has definitely put together some awesome rigs! I haven't heard for certain yet, but I suspect Soni will be joining Preferred Chassis on the rocks again this year at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. 5 Scorpions showed up last year - but I had to leave early in the morning the day after Soni...
Umm - very good thought - but then again, there might be a few additional steps that need to be taken to avoid setting off a few security measures that I forgot to mention. This "ain't my first rodeo".
