New to me and Dad M38A1

I'll probably wind up going that way as much as possible, where possible. Dad doesn't even want a roll bar - he wants to keep the original military feel for it. he bought a repro canvas top and sides already, and we don't even have the **** Jeep in my driveway yet. :D

New to me and Dad M38A1

Nope. I may need to tell my Dad a few more times, but "Frame-off" start flashing in my head as soon as he showed me the auction. the first thing I'll be doing is dis-assembly, which won't take long since there's not much left still bolted on. I think the devil will be in the details - finding...

New to me and Dad M38A1

Here's hoping. seems like a legit guy - he's up in the Blueridge area and there's different CJ-type jeeps photobombing some of the pictures of the M38. there's one in his barn, one in a field that looks like it runs and drives, some parts here and there... I'll keep you guys posted. he...

New to me and Dad M38A1

I'll be honest, I was looking at a Jeep project, and had no idea I'd be doing one of these. I pictured a CJ7 that needed some love (and probably a tub) but never an M38. here she is: Won it on ebay for $289 negotiating with the seller for other parts and delivery. I think Dad and I did...

    Loving my MEP-003A

Thanks guys, it's good to be back. I've been catching up with my daughters and hanging out with the wife and relaxing good bit. Diesel, good luck - I'm sure you'll figure it out. Jerry, thanks brother, good to hear from you. Jama, thanks bud.

    Loving my MEP-003A

So I get home after 9 months of, uh, "vacation", and my wife has done a great job taking care of the house, the bills, the twins (daughters), and everything. My truck still runs, and my garage is still clean. life is good. I go crank up my generator, and nothing. I check the batteries, one...

Bad Military Surplus Generator Advice Online

I'm a little enebriated at present, but I hope the misinformation prevails to an extent - the true enthusiasts and hobbyists will be able to get units for cheaper and the idiots will stay away. that's why this site exists - good info, great people. oh, by the way, good to see you all again...

Length of pickup tube for bung adapter

my dad picked up a 20-something gallon jug that holds a sodium-bicarb solution used for cleaning boilers... his dry-cleaner uses the stuff. it washes out easily with water, so we rinsed them and used one of the two holes for the bung adapter, and the other we use as the filler. no...

    M-214?

My new Faraday cage/shed with insulation...a work in progress

I'm learning that one too. I got a way to store fuel, a working unit, now I need house hook-up and genset storage. I'm also testing some noise abatement on my dad's unit. I know lots of guys say no mufflers, but so far his haven't hurt performance. the real test will be this weekend when we...

About to pick up my MEP 003A

I did not, but I imagine you could. I'm not sure how those load meters work, though - does it matter if the generators are different sizes? like, is that meter "tuned" to 10Kw? or does it measure the % load a different way?

My new Faraday cage/shed with insulation...a work in progress

same reason I got a generator to begin with... good idea. :)

About to pick up my MEP 003A

Back in business. got some injectors off a member who was parting out an -003, and she cranked right up. life's good - now to wire up the house to her. more pics to follow as I get her mounted up.

    MEP 003A No start

some good fortune - got some nozzles from a member parting out an -003, and they arrived today. opened the box, knocked a little dirt and dust off the injectors, and stuck 'em in. Genset fired right up after a minute or Preheat. got my governor set, left the throttle alone, shut it down after...

    Messed up big time

great news. it's always a good feeling when you can un-screw your F-ups. best of luck with that pump.

    MEP 003A No start

well, party's over, folks. at least until I get new nozzles. the metering valves were so horribly stuck in the nozzle bodies, that I broke the small pins (needles?) off the head of two of them, and I broke the stem off of one of the valves. I tried messing with the last one a little, but it's...

    MEP 003A No start

I may have laquer thinner - if the PB doesn't work, I'll try that. the diesel fuel bath didn't do much other than clean up the nozzle bodies a little more, and while that isn't a bad thing, it doesn't help unstick the metering valves. I also have brake parts cleaner in a jug. failing any of...

    MEP 003A No start

got the nozzles covered in PB blaster, and I filled up the inside of them with it too. we'll see.
