Ok, well got the fluid drained and the pan off. Pulled the spin on fliter as well. The spin on filter up by the cooler had little bit of sparkly's in its fluid I poured out of it but nothing alarming I would say. The pan fluid had about 5 small, small pieces of metal from something, each like...
Whoa, that's a bit of an issue there Reckless. Hope you get it figured out.....I am gonna do all I can externally before I go dropping my pan to eliminate all those possible issues. good luck with your findings....
Parking brake is completely disengaged when I am attempting to put into gear, made sure of that numerous times in initial investigation. I wi go ahead and remove nut n flat stock tonite and see what I find. I am pretty certain there is nothing like the device you described on the passenger...
Do you recommend doing this by removing the pan or watching the cable move it down from the outside...?.....I have checked its operation from the outside and it seems to be functioning properly but without the pan removed I can't say the same for the lever actuating the valve body components on...
Ok, found it in the parts technical manual with a little more searching. It appears to be the neutral safety switch but not sure if that would prevent it from going into the forward gears. There are 2 wires, maybe one for forward and one for reverse? I don't know just guessing......if its not...
Ok, so what is that black solenoid looking thing next to the selector shaft lever? I can't find that in any of the TMs or parts TMs....? Something tells me that is my culprit.....
Joe
Thanks FP.....I will look for this solenoid you speak of but I was under the impression these transmissions were hydrologically operated. I have already inspected shift linkage and selector shaft and all seem to b operating fine, I have yet to inspect modulator cable as another just mentioned...
Thanks for the help guys, the tow strap idea was gonna be tried with truck running and just my buddy pulling it to a shop in neutral, but yeah maybe not a good idea, who knows what could go wrong. Gonna hopefully get a chance this weekend to drain fluid and pull pan for inspection. Im sure its...
Yes, there are mobile services and I can't afford them. Big trucks = Big bucks, yes.....I knew this upon buying this truck, just gotta bite the bullet in cirumstances like this and be my own warranty station. It is a very warm n fuzzy feeling when you know you can fix such a problem like this...
I can relate on the power issue. I completely serviced my truck once I purchased it and it seemed to run quite better. My fuel filter was very bad. The filter was rusted all to **** as well as the canister. Some idiot had obviously got water in the system somehow I would assume. Truck runs...
Towing the truck is for sure not an option unless I can get my buddy to come down from upstate with his Dodge Cummins dually and using a tow strap to drag me down to a shop. I can't imagine what the bill would be with a big rig tow....
I have this Monday off and will be trying a few things...
That would be great if I could get the truck out of my driveway. I need to learn what could be wrong and not pay some outrageous amount of money to have something simple fixed.
It has to be something simple as it has always been driving fine. Going to pull pan and inspect selector shaft and...
There is no vacuum modulator that I am aware of but I was examining the technical manual and wondering about the modulator since you had mentioned it. It is mechanical and wondering if it somehow came out of adjustment would that prevent it from selecting a forward gear? Like I mentioned...
Jeez, I hope your wrong, don't have the money for that.....plus I wouldn't know the first place to take it down here in Southern California. Only places I know that would work on the trans would be up in Central Valley/Fresno area where all the heavy farm trucks and equipment are. Gonna try a...
Fluid smells fine and shifter is moving cable and lever on trans, just no go. This is just so weird how it was running fine a week ago. All I did was replace a headlight and a couple bulbs this week.
Interesting how technical manual says if slippage occurs in all forward gears check fluid level but why would it go into reverse just fine and not any forward gears? Sorry, again, I am not very knowledgeable on autos.......
So, basically out of the blue, the transmission is not shifting into any of the forward gears. Truck had been running fine last weekend, went to go to pull it out to wash it up today and no go. Weird thing is, it goes into reverse just fine but then switching to 1-5 or any other gear set, it...
Got an update.....I did a fluid level check and it was a bit overfilled. I filled it when it was cold and obviously level went up when it got hot so I took some out down to proper fill level. Grabbed the infrared temperature gun and went for spin. Temps on the gauge were in the 275-300 range...
Well, I think I found a worthy fix! Got an idea from the recent thread I saw about the interlock air cylinder.....I just took my air cylinder off and removed the locking shaft and put the air cylinder back on without that shaft. Works like a charm now! Shifts very smoothly right into low...
