    truck markings

For that time period, on passenger side - 2ACR and on driver side - F 406 4 = 4th platoon, 6 = platoon leader's vehicle. Another example for a divisional engineer unit for a vehicle in the battalion motor pool would be - on passenger side 1 Δ 40 E and on driver side - HQ 813

    how to repaint carc

When I was in the Army, anytime we had to do bodywork on vehicles, we would just use spray paint or would brush on CARC paint (depending on location). We weren't allowed to use CARC in California without a proper (expensive) paint booth so we just spray painted where we made repairs and it...

    MEP-016D engine manual

I just picked up a MEP-016D from GL today. I have manuals for the generator part but don't have any manuals for the Yanmar engine. Can anyone point me in the right direction for manuals.

    Uncovered Markings on M880

Good chance that it was 6th Army. The 6th was active from 1943 till 1995 and covered 12 western states for the Army Reserve Command

    Antenna Ball?

It could be a Jeep shift knob for the transfer case or front axle, they are smaller than the transmission shifter. Or it could be for a PTO.

    m944A1?

Give me a little time and I will see if I can get it scanned and into a PDF file. I know that TM 9-4940-560-14&P was very hard to get when I was in the Army. The copy I have is an "advance copy" that wasn't even in the normal supply chain. The manual covers the Shop Equipment, Organizational...

    M944a1

The M944A1/SEORTM was mainly assigned to Engineer units. Direct and General Support units had the trailer mounted shop sets or sometimes used a M109 van. Some separate Engineer Brigades had both the truck and trailer mounted sets. Combat Engineer Battalions had the truck mounted sets. I was...

    M944a1

That is the only photo I have found so far. I did find the TM for the shop set along with the TM's for the 800 series and trailer mounted shop sets. We didn't set up the canvas too often because it was such a pain to do plus you had to have a large area for the truck. I argued with my Lt. once...

    m944A1?

I know this is an old thread but here is the manual number for the shop set - TM 9-4940-560-14&P and the TM for the 800 series truck is - TM 9-4940-545-14&P and the manual for the trailer mounted set is - TM 9-4940-559-14&P . I happen to have all three manuals.

M944a1 or M811 any one know where to get tent sides!

I have the repair manuals for the trailer mounted shop set along with manuals for both the 800 and 900 series shop sets. Give me a little time and I can copy instructions for installing the frame and curtains. The frame itself doesn't have a NSN but has a P/N.

    M944a1

I was digging through some old pictures of mine and found one of the machine shop I operated while stationed in Germany. It is a M944A1 truck chassis with the Shop Equipment, Organizational Maintenance, Truck Mounted machine shop AKA "bat mobile" . We were setting up the canvas sides on the shop...

M818 vs M931A1 head to head

The XM8181 I drove was non turbo/naturally aspirated. It was definitely an odd ball truck. I prefer the M818s for off road use. I pulled a Baily Bridge trailer overloaded with repair parts for the motorpool and the truck could barely keep up with the convoy on the highway but pulled great off...

M818 vs M931A1 head to head

Either that or someone at the factory had a sense of humor when making the data plate. I do remember the year as being 1947, always thought that was very odd for a truck that old to still be in service. We had changed from a construction engineer bn to a combat engineer bn and had a lot of old...

M818 vs M931A1 head to head

I wish I had pictures of the truck and data plates. I drove it from 92-94 and the DOD was 1947 and made by Kaiser-Willy's. I don't remember the bumper number but I was in the Bn motorpool, HHC 40th Eng Bn in Baumholder Ge. I tried getting the truck moved to the division museum but the chain of...

M818 vs M931A1 head to head

I drove a 1947 XM818 while stationed in Germany (92-94) and it was governed at 55MPH. The truck did great off road (plenty of power in low) but didn't do so good on the Autobahn. The newer trucks (especially the A2 with turbo) are better for higher top speed and pulling hills.

    Slow vehicle safety

A lot of good ideas in this post. It's even worse in Germany (or was in 90's) with civilians. We were convoying our tracked vehicles from the rail yard to base one night and had an accident. We had 1 Humvee in front with signs and extra lights and a 5 ton rear escort with extra lights. There was...

    m113 DOZER BLADE

That is after my time. I was in from 89-96. Alredneck, the M728 CEV wasn't fun to be close to when it fired. I was a combat engineer and then a machinist (still assigned to Engineer units). The M728 has a 165mm main gun compared to the 105mm and 120mm guns on main battle tanks.

    m113 DOZER BLADE

I never saw one while I was in the Army. That looks like a combat engineer specific vehicle. There were a lot of different variants/modifications by/for foreign governments based on the M113. The M113 with dozer blade looks like it would work as good as the M9 ACE (which was a nightmare). I...
