    Electrical troubleshooting help please

Horn activates via switched ground. It is permanently hot. One common cause is insulation defect of the horn wire where it exits the steering column, top or bottom. There should be a rubber plug in the bottom end to prevent this.

    Any updates to this??

    Electrical troubleshooting help please

Unless you forgot to switch off the Acc switch or left the heater blower motor running, there is no reason why batteries should drain down, without another major defect. Check the battery cables, where they cross over the frame member; any chafing etc? Once you get the engine started, check...

Need Tm for pinion seal replacement

When I did mine, I followed the suggestion to not remove the seal housing/carrier and instead pull the seal out with a puller, then check the shaft for play (if there is, you are looking at further disassembly and fixing the pinion bearing), followed by tapping the new seal into place (I used a...

Fun in the Blizzard of 2013

I am relieved that it is not only me who can entertain himself for a looong time doing doughnuts in a truck..... I only get the chance if there is snow on the ground when I put her away for winter storage.

    XM211 Recovery

Looks complete; hardtop...nice. The guys in "The Old Deuce" forum may be better suited to help you out. It is the discerning multifuel and cat crowd here :-)

    XM211 Recovery

Your pictures don't work. The tires will probably be ok for now, while you check out the truck and it is not being driven on public roads. They are, from your description, at least 13 years old and you did not mention whether or not the truck was on jack stands or sitting on the tires - even...

Thanks, and I know a few people that would argue that even one of me is too many!

Head gasket replacement tips and tricks.

Here is a thread with collected wisdom: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?48620-Head-gasket-repair-walk-through If it were my truck, I'd do both, seeing the truck is sidelined and everything necessary is already apart. Having to disassemble again for the other head gasket appears to...

    value of m49a2c Tank

My two cents are that the "special" versions of the M44 chassis are becoming somewhat rare. It is your truck, you bought it, you can do what you want, even send it for scrap as-is. Not for anybody else to tell you what to do. If it was me, I would attempt to keep it original and trade it for...

    Low Battery Generator Level!

It means that there is more draw than supply. While it can be an indication of a failing alternator, it can also be a battery problem. Did you, by any chance, check electrolyte level in the batteries? Did the long drive "cook" them (overcharge)? Usually you'd see electrolyte spilling from the...

    deuce rear axle seal

Yes! I should know...I use it upside down in the cab as a cup holder!

    Gauge repair question

You mean...there are OTHER tools to work on a Deuce????

    deuce rear axle seal

I highly recommend you look at the TM and posts that deal with axle seal leaks to understand why it is leaking and where it is leaking from and to. In short: You would remove the drive flange and pull the drive shaft, then bend lock washer and remove axle nuts (3 inch hex socket needed) and...

    Engine swap fun

Condolences. http://www.waterloospecialties.com/trucks/m-35a8/images/index.html This is a forum member's truck. I thought I'd get you started on some ideas!

New Deuce owner needs help with Heavy white/grey smoke and No Brakes.

While new/rebuilt IP is great, it also means someone had his hands in the fuel system and may have mis-timed the pump (can be timed 180 degrees wrong and the truck will still start and run - just not well). I second the troubleshooting manual. You want to verify pump settings and that you get...

Steering Issues, Possibly 6x6 Drive Issue? HELP!

All you need is an 8t bottle jack and 6x6 pieces of wood to crib underneath the front axle. Since you jack up the axle itself, you only lift an inch or so. Rear wheels chocked. I second the hub removal but do not know if there is an issue with removing the bolts when in fact there is some...

    Bought another deuce

Make sure you park them apart, preferably separated by a solid partition wall. Heed the advice. Otherwise, you could come out of the house one day and there are THREE deuces parked there! There is a thread about a guy who has a Deuce with 900 -series sheet metal. I guess we all know what has...

I added a Muffler, in Disguise!!

Those are some high numbers right there for an empty truck. I can only compare to mine; I can get her to 1200 when loaded, but empty it would perhaps be a short spike, if I could get that high at all. Fuel is turned up on mine. I am wondering if your muffler has sufficient flow. I say this...

    Tow bar workings

I second that - a little writeup with a few pics for both would be a cool addition to the "HOW TO" section!
