what to do with this m342a2 dump

The M342 is on the shorter wheelbase of the M275 tractor, not the M35/M44 frame.

    Thinking about Road Trip... Advice?

Well, the only way to find out how "good to go" your truck is, is to take it on a road trip! Being fairly close to home for most of the trip, I suggest you check for SS members that could give you a hand, a tow home or to a place for repairs, if needed. If you were on the side of the highway...

What to look for when purchasing a fully restored 1969 M35A2

Leaks, mis-adjusted brake shoes, master cylinder and air pack in need of overhaul, rusted steel brake lines, old cracked brake flex hoses etc. etc. There are good threads here on what to check on a Deuce that you consider buying or before you get into that seat and intend to drive off.

What to look for when purchasing a fully restored 1969 M35A2

The description reads like one for a very desirable truck. While it is promising and indicates that the truck has been gone over and repaired/upgraded very carefully, there are no guarantees, just probabilities. It may be somewhat unrealistic to purchase a 40 year old truck, based on ancient...

    Finish it, yeah

Jose, your truck is beautiful - but there is something wrong with it. On the second picture from the right, bottom row, at what appears to be a car show, there is NO OIL on the floor underneath your truck! That does not seem normal!

HEMTT, gets to help make a new quad 50 gun truck

I think that a LEO might be somewhat reluctant to park in the usual location behind you...

    NDT Replacements

You do realize that you asked a question somewhat similar to "what is the best pizza topping"? Answer is: "It depends...." If you want to keep the stock look, then consider 11.00x20 NDTs. Benefits of the bigger tires and no look-compromise. NDTs perform surprisingly well, when used correctly...

Head gasket repair walk through - go to post #31!

What should be on the shopping list when preparing for this job? Which gaskets and hardware are a must-have for this job? Obviously a new set of latest-style (with tabs) head gaskets. Intake manifold gasket? Exhaust manifold gasket? Turbo to manifold gasket(s)? Which other gaskets? Any bolts...

Head gasket repair walk through - go to post #31!

What I am interested in - and probably other newbies that have not done a head gasket job on a multi - are tips for what to do and what not to do and how to do it, from people that have done this job. I would like this to turn into a walk-through for the head gasket job. Seeing that you...

    1993 AM General won't move!

Check underneath for any disconnected linkage to transfer case and transmission? If you can see mechanical input from the levers into both tranny and transfer case, check colour, smell of tranny fluid. It might be 15W40 engine oil but it still should not be black and smelling burnt. Oftentimes...

First Deuce - Picked It Up Today

Congrats to what looks like a nice, very complete truck. It is surprisingly $$ to add the cargo bows, troop seats etc. after the fact. I agree with what someone said: It does not matter how much you paid for the truck. How much did you spend on it? As for the parking brake shoes: they are...

    Turn Signal Switch Fix

Good fix! Turn signals acting up can also be because of the turn signal "flasher box" in the engine compartment going bad. I cleaned and adjusted the switch, too, but needed a new box in the end.

    Head Gasket Leak

Hey...it is 30 plus years old. Anything can happen. I am wondering re head bolt torque, too. Is it ok to set the wrench to the prescribed torque value and re-torque (tighten down) the head bolts? Mine is seeping from the front as well; darn fan blows it backwards and upwards, oiling up the...

    Help (SOS) for flyusn99

Did the vendor of the truck provide any support for rectifying the situation that the SS member found himself in?

How many quarts of DOT 5?

If you have not yet done so, now would be a really good time for changing out wheel cylinders, flex hoses, a hydraulic brake light switch, overhaul the MC..... It is so disheartening to watch DOT5 drip out of your system, at 10 cents a drop, when you have to tear into the brake system again...

New shoes (and socks) on the deuce

Can you shoot the metal can over the roof when you start her up? :-)

    Got into a bad spot

I am glad that Murphy was obviously asleep or had gone out, buying more booze. Normally, the garage ends up 6 inches in your truck, on such occasions. Good that you got it out w/o scraping paint or creating a reason to re-shingle the garage!

    Junction City Ks Crusher

A guy up here, dealer, bought a yard full of Deuces directly from the government auction. Because the military prevented them from ever getting registered for road use again, he is now breaking up and then scrapping about 10 deuces a month. Sad.

Reliability of a deuce vs a 1980's suburban or F350?

Yes - if it is maintained. Starting and going is one thing, stopping is another. You want a Deuce where the brakes have been meticulously gone over, it does not leak at all from anywhere around the wheels, and does not have a current draw from the batteries with the master switch off.
