PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

We've actually had an M819 wrecker-crane OUT ON THE TRAILS there, not just in the parking lot. So, if you're feeling froggy, and want to bring the wrecker and try it out on the big trails, you're more than welcome! We've had a M109 shop van too, and a couple jacked-up M818 and M916 tractors...

Red Ball Militaria and MV Parts Swap Meet - Jim Thorpe PA 3/1/14

I don't have a table there per se, but if anyone wants any of the following, I can throw it in the truck and bring up in the morning. I plan to be there for only a couple hours, from 10am till about noon. I have the following: halftrack parts (right fender, dashboard, passenger seat frame and...

saving military communications gear at hamfests

Not true - there's a lot in So Cal., a lot got surplussed out of Long Beach and San Diego after the war. But it is older, WWII era stuff. A lot of the newer stuff comes from East Coast installations. Also saw a set of PRC-117 backpack radios, complete but untested, for $500 for the pair...

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

Early morning, I get there around 11am-12 noon on Friday. Usually noone there when I arrive, except maybe psychobob in his van bodied-deuce.

need help identifying electrical/comm stuff in S250 shelter

I'd be interested in a lot of what's there. Only limited by the distance from you in CA to me in VA, so those heavy power supplies aren't going to find a home here. But they are worth good money, I've seen those units bring $200-300 in good order. Those you should find a good home for them...

saving military communications gear at hamfests

Well, went to another hamfest Sunday, this one in Annandale, VA. It's an indoor/outdoor show, some vendors inside with tailgating outside. Generally a nice small show with a lot of folks showing up. Weather was nice outside, in the 40s all morning, and I sold a little bit there, enough to...

    1941 K18-C GMC Recovered today

Great news on the towing and the tires. The difference in the size is negligible. I'm sure for the deal you got on them, noone is going to fault that in a judging contest. For the rims, if one or more are bad, have you though about re-centering them? The M715 guys do that a lot with their...

    M52a1

Awesome work, mortarman! Those 5-ton from the Vietnam era are getting hard to find in nice shape, even in USA. Thanks for saving a piece of history, it took a lot of effort on your part... For those who say, "this truck isn't worth all that effort, find a nicer truck to restore", remember...

Should Sidewalls be Wavy on M923A2?

I have seen a bunch of tires like that on M939 series trucks, I just thought they came from the factory like that...

Red Ball Militaria and MV Parts Swap Meet - Jim Thorpe PA 3/1/14

I look forward to that! :) Less than two weeks to go, can't wait.

PA - Spring 2014 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

I go up I-81 the whole way up from Front Royal. If you want to meet up Friday and head up together in case you have any mechanical issues (safety in numbers) I'd be happy to do that.

    rust in the fuel system

If it turns out the inside of the tank is rusty - and you can't find a replacement tank for cheap - you might take it to a radiator shop and ask for him to blast and line the inside of the tank. I had that done with the gas tank for my old M725 and whatever he put in there sealed it and would...

    rust in the fuel system

Or the hoses are slightly dry rotted and fuel is leaking through them, or air getting into them. Best bet is just check the entire line network and see how they are. When I bought one of my deuces, the truck started up and idled fine in GL's holding yard, but the second I tried stepping on...

    Towbar sizes

You're right - the pic of the adapters threw me off. I saw the skinny pin on the bottom and I said, too narrow for a 1" pin, must be a 3/4"!

Anyone had their GL MV auction "contested" by the government?

Not with a truck - but about 8 years back I bought some surplus electronic equipment from GL. I believe it was a pallet load of AN/GRA-39 radio control set residue. They were pretty shot, I think out of the lot of 15 of them, I managed to build 2 working one out of the lot, which I promptly...

    Siren on CUCV in FL

Not sure how laws are written in Florida, however in most places the law is there, not to prevent people from having sound devices and light bars, but to prevent people from impersonating a law enforcement officer, or to prevent people from thinking that you represent same. You could mount one...

    Wrecker Bed (A Good Laugh.)

It looks very rough, but I have seen worse come back from the dead. With your level of knowledge Kenny, I'm sure you can make it happen.

    Towbar sizes

I believe the M715 series uses the 3/4" pins, though they need special feet for their weird bumper/shackle setup. M880 series uses 1" as well, requires special adapters underneath the front bumper assy. Pics of each adapter:

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

Don't have a CUCV, but plan on it - when it finally arrives, the doghead relay conversion will be one of the first mods I do.
