While it's uncovered, now would be a good time to check the rear brakes, the gas tank sending unit, and the rear shocks, just to make sure they are 100%. If anything needs repairing or replacing in those areas, ain't no better time than when the bed is off and it's easy to get to. Just sayin.
Need to replace that driveshaft, with a dent that big, it is not long for this world. At the very least, replacing it will remove a harmonic imbalance that it is causing.
Also, now is a good time to grind off that stupid ball hitch and mount a real pintle one. If military vehicles were...
Buy the whole thing. They aren't making them anymore and WWII green iron deserve good homes to save for future generations to enjoy. If the price is less than $1K (which is a lot more than it's worth in scrap metal), BUY IT! I'm sure you can find a home for it here or on G503.
I'll be there with my 12 yo daughter. Not sure yet if I'll have an MV by then, but I'm trying. Get there Friday evening and stay until Saturday evening.
Went to the Berryville VA hamfest on Sunday. Beautiful weather, the site reminds me a lot of the Gilbert PA fairgrounds where they have the MV show in September, lots of oak trees and shade, big crowds, etc. Sales sucked for me, only $20 in sales, but then again I only had some small stuff...
It looks similar to a couple small gensets used by the USA in World War II, but it's not. I vote also, that this is a civvy trailer or a welded together amalgamation.
On a side note, when did the Air Force stop using Strata Blue to paint their trucks? I assume sometime in the mid-1970s when the services all adopted the 4-color MERDC camo pattern?
I have flat towed a CUCV M1009 behind my deuce once. Only thing I needed to do was drop the driveshafts. I used a military medium towbar, that's all that was needed. They cost $300-400 in nice shape, with the feet, so it might be a good investment to just buy a towbar for yourself and be done...
Strip it of every military part that's salvageable, then any part off the rest that might be of use to you or someone, and scrap the rest. It's not an experimental deuce or something really rare. I've seen cobbled together trucks all over the place that look military; it just turns out that...
Is the frame/suspension/undercarriage going to get any love as well? I see a beautiful body resto coming along but the chassis is looking a little unloved.... :(
If you are set up, it's slowly turning into a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday show. Which is great! More days to enjoy with friends and green iron.
