Only could show up Saturday due to work commitments - when work comes up I have to take it so my play time got cut short.
This was the first year I took my daughter to the rally - she wasn't thrilled before the event, but she said she had a GREAT TIME after! She really enjoyed trail riding...
I really wish we could bring our own fire ring (i.e. tractor rim). Those dinky 14-inch car rim fire rings they have there you can barely get a couple pieces of wood in.
I miss campfires made out of stacks of pallets. :)
All the ones I have ever seen were brass, and I'm sure after a couple days in the field they rather quickly started tarnishing after being out in the weather, so you didn't have to worry about the enemy seeing the sunlight glint off your fire extinguisher. However, I'm also sure that since GIs...
At this point, can't make it on Friday, have to work. Will be arriving early Saturday morning and stay through the evening hours. But it will be good to see everyone again, hopefully some new faces are there too...
A Gama Goat powered by a Corvair engine? Wow, didn't think you could make a Goat any more undesirable, but life surprises me sometimes.
Very interesting pictures. I like the look of the prototype better than the production one.
Yes we have. First RC rally in fall 2007 formernewMVguy lost his brakes due to a failed wheel cylinder. Took a small welder to get him back up and...um...stopping.
Will be there Friday around noon, stay until late Saturday night or Sunday morning, as usual. No vehicle as of yet, still broke as ****. But can bring some firewood and maybe a boombox with some tunes.
Okay, time to set the date:
The official dates for the rally will be October 25-27th, 2013. Shenkmen will start a new thread with general info on the rally.
There are two sides of the road to RC. The normal side was locked off for the race last Spring. It's the side we're used to and know every route. So, the other side was the only side we could use, and it's still pretty new, lots of trails but almost no signage telling you where you were, the...
I think shenkmen would be better to contact them, he has talked to the RC folks before and has a "relationship" with them and knows who to talk to.
HOWEVER, I'm not sure if coordinating with them will matter much. Last Spring, we found a weekend that worked better for them all around, nothing...
Apparently, there were road tires made in that weird 18-inch wheel size. The DUKWs used 11.00x18 NDTs in WWII, but that 8.75x18 is kinda weird. Might have to upgrade to 20-inch rims in order to use more common tires.
Are you sure that is an original military trailer? Perhaps someone built another body on a military frame. Or perhaps the only military part on it are the axles and wheels. I've never seen a mil trailer like that one before.
Camp in the ass end of your truck, ask around and maybe some other guys have spare gear you can borrow for the event.
Deuces on the highway are fine, average about 50mph. The engine roars around 2300 rpm the whole way, and you slow down on the hills, depending how steep the hills are. Cars...
Shelters are not surplussed out any longer complete with all the radios, not since the 1990s at least. Good find, it's been around a while waiting for a good home!
Got into a conversation on another site about the value of old WWII Jeeps. Now, I know price varies all over the place, but this guy REALLY low-balled what I thought a vehicle would be worth.
I understand original WWII jeeps are worth more than a repro. What, in your opinion, would be the...
We'll keep this poll up for another week or so, then we'll make the decision what weekend. Looks like the last two weekends are a tie, but the overwhelming number of people don't care when it will be, they are going regardless.
To be honest, most of the trails that the big trucks can fit on are green trails, so you'll be fine. There are some tighter ones that are green too, but suffice to say that the trails that would cause a beginner problems at RC are too small and narrow to even try fitting down.
