How soon is the auction? I might be going through there in a couple weeks, right before Thanksgiving, on the way to Coleman's. Might be too late for whatever auction you are looking at, though.

The cables might have to be something you have to fab up. Lots of power cables get surplussed out as scrap, just letting you know making a set of cables up with new ends and new cable (and wiring it up yourself) might be easier than finding an original set.

And the manual lists the reels with this info: "2 Reel with cable, 13217E0412"

No worries - could be worse. I love those guys who advertise that the truck they are selling comes with a 12,000-lb WENCH. I should call one of those guys up and say, "how much is the truck WITHOUT your wife?"

For that reason I'd recommend having a spare wheel/tire for your M101A2 on board the trailer, so you don't get in a situation where you're towing a trailer with your M1009 and you get a flat on the trailer, the spare on the CUCV won't help you.

I'd pay up to about $3K for a good condition M923. I prefer the 939 series over the 809 series, mainly because the automatic would make road trips a lot less tiring.

Offer him $2K for the lot. You can make that back easily by selling them whole to a restorer, or in pieces on eBay. Would sure beat the price your friend would get cutting them up.

What I am saying is I bought this to find homes for what is left that is good, and the rest will be scrapped out. I'd rather save something, even just to find the parts a good home, than to have the whole thing end up at the scrappers and the good parts are lost forever.

I vote for M60 on the MUTT. More appropriate for the Vietnam era than the M1919 Browning.
