I am trying to get this M200 trailer does for Aberdeen, am having problems with the existing brake lines. The steel brake line compression fittings (they have a name, I can't remember what they are called) have corroded to the brass fittings on the master cylinder, as well as to the inner wheel...
Does anyone have any in-country pics of any 5-ton M51 dump trucks in Vietnam being used as gun trucks? I talked to a vet not long ago, who said that whenever the GIs in his unit could get a ride in a dump truck, they preferred to pick that instead of a standard cargo truck, since the metal...
That halftrack is definitely half off, but there is plenty there to build up on. Hope the new owner was able to put some rear armor back on it and bring it back from the dead....
Took the M100 trailer out for a tow today to ShieldWolf37's place, he has been a ham radio guy for years and he said he had a pile of stuff that was military that he didn't want anymore. All of it was stuff that needs to be restored, but some of the gear went back to WWII, including some ARC-5...
I got mine for free. Of course, I bought 7 other trucks, sold them for a profit and the profit paid for mine. I don't think I would work it that way again, took too much time and was a lot of work, bidding and towing them home and all the paperwork and fixing problems and advertising and...

Just ordered my copy of Hard Ride Vol. 1 from Amazon, they had a lightly used copy for $31.95 plus shipping, it was the low price. I have had Vol. 2 for a while, can't wait to get more of an education in the art of the thick steel.
Get something like this - big and long and wide, so the danger of flipping over is nil. Big tires to absorb the impacts, and cab-over design so you can see the trail better. Just get rid of the front stabilizing plow and the rear outriggers, and you'll have great clearance.
Someone here on the site built a serious mudbogger out of a deuce, here's the pic to give you ideas.
If you're just doing some minor offroading, leave the deuce as is, and fix as needed. However, if the Rubicon Trail is too sissy for you, I'd bob the deuce, hack off the mud flaps, fenders...
Grand total of $8400 for the set of 6 tires.
And the tire dealer would be laughing all the way to the bank that day....
We're Steel Soldiers. We buy things surplus, retail is for the OTHER guy.
There will be a lot of wrench-turning to get that sucker looking good, but you know, it will be worth it in the end. Nothing beats having a tank full of cold water on a hot day, out in the field...
