To shim or not to shim

I spent a lot of timje and money trying to figure out my starter problems. My 09 came with a 12v where there should have been a 28. I ended up going through three starters and when I finally broke down and bought a WILSON I thought that would be the end of it... it wasn't. My starter needed...

    new tire for M1009 $180.OTD

Heya Nut, I draw deer tags for Beaty Butte, Whitehorse, or Trout Creek often, but also range to Grayback and Soda Mountain, Cascadia, and other wild hair locales. Have you been hunting since moving up here?

    new tire for M1009 $180.OTD

Just discovered the last of my Treadwright Guard Dogs recaps going flat. I bough four of them a couple of years ago, and replaced them as the retreads started to separate. This last one (driver front) looked pretty good at the time I replaced the other three for tire separation, so I tried to...

Whenever I come to a complete stop I feel a CLUNK.

Feels like it's under and towards the rear end, but I can't be sure. Anyways, I am not sure what to look for, it was happening before the U-joint at the rear axle failed and was replaced. What could this be?

Replacing the worn Strike Bolts in the door of your M1009

After a couple of years of slamming doors to get them to latch completely, I finally replaced the strike bolt, and I am pleased with the result. I have to say that on a scale of 1-5, this job is a 2.5. It is easier if you don't run into trouble with the floating retainer inside of the jamb that...

Threading on the CUCV fire extinguisher bracket?

I've found a couple of places on my '09 where odd screws were needed. I ended up spec'ing them at 7mm. The problem was that they were not stock at any of the usual places. I finally found some at the farm store.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I noticed that the left turn dash lamp was on when I pulled my headlights on. I posted about this before, and read threads on it that others had started. For no conscious reason I wiggled the turn signal lever and flipped the hi-beams on... some wehere in there the left turn lamp normalized and...

I thought I was DEQ (SMOG CHECK) exempt in Oregon?

M1009 Passess Oregon DEQ smog test... Well. let me rephrase. I drove in. He checked my Odometer. He punched in my VIN and asked me for the MONEY. There was no test whatsoever. I not bitching, it's just that if they don't give a ****, why don't they charge less?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Army selling Humvees to the public for the first time

You'll have to forgive me. I don't read all the forums here. Usually just the CUCV one. I hadn't seen it mentioned HERE and thought if there were others as narrowly focused as I, that they might like to hear about it. Since the HUMVEE seem to be closely related to the CUCV I though of this...

Army selling Humvees to the public for the first time

Army selling Humvees to the public for the first time — but there's a catch 3 days old article. I just read it. Tell the kids Santa is not coming and empty out the savings.

    Hoses slowly becoming greasy

I changed mine this past summer. They looked about like yours, but were leaking onto other parts. The only problem with changing them was that the elbow angles on the aftermarket parts are a little off where they run through a bracket at the rear of the block. Look up my thread on this fix...

Need help with unidentified noise please.

CUCVRUS, thanks for straightening me our (pun intended). I added the two rings in this morning- surprisingly it was not raining under my M1009. Just got back from some shopping- big diff. All feels and sounds well. I'll have to tell Doghead, I don't think he reads the TM. SEGOF.

Need help with unidentified noise please.

I'll try it in the morning. rain, rain, rain. How does it provide centering? I'm not seeing it- I see the rings, just don't get what/how they do it.

Need help with unidentified noise please.

 Don't tell me that now. I didn't think it mattered. I put the inside snap rings both on the driveline, but because the caps are held in place with the strap at the differntial, I didn't see the point of installing the snap rings on the remaining caps that nest in the differential yoke...

Need help with unidentified noise please.

Still getting vibration. The noise issue cleared up, but I may have installed the shaft 180 degrees out. Would that do it?O therwise I did bend the yoke ear a smidge- which will be a rebalance. Q: Could I get one from a standard wrecking yard K5?

Need help with unidentified noise please.

Updated. I used a MAPP torch on the cap and trunion of the u-joint. The plastic softened and oozed out like a snake. My problem was that the inner C-rings were still in place. After I pulled them free, everything went smooth. I had the driveline back in the truck in five minutes. 41...
