Checked out the truck today. It was a fixer. Not too surprising given the price. I was hoping the cab was in better condition. Looks like it didn't have a top for quite awhile. The bed was nice, and the tires were in great condition however. I wound up calling the guy in Tenino and drove down...

Looking at 1st deuce, how to tell if sprag works?

I gave the guy in Tenino a call this morning. He didn't answer his cell. I left my number. I f he calls back within an hour I can look at his trucks today. If he doesn't, I couldn't look at them until next Sunday. (I only get one day off a week)

Looking at 1st deuce, how to tell if sprag works?

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to look at the truck this Sunday. The asking price is $2K. If I like it, I'll offer less of course. There are some other leads I've gotten here on the site as well and don't want to be too hasty in my purchase. Maybe it would make more sense to save up a bit...

Looking at 1st deuce, how to tell if sprag works?

Please excuse the noob question. I'm going to look at a deuce for sale this Sunday. It has a sprag front differential, which I've read can be trouble prone. How can I tell if it's working properly? I assume there is no lever to engage 6x6 mode like there is with the air shift trucks. It' just...

Great to hear CurryRA! I just may take you up on the offer. Thanks. :) I thought I was the only one that wanted a deuce around here. Its great that there are so many people around these parts that own deuces. When I get a truck, we need to schedule some kind of get together. We could have a...

I talked to Brad Milne. That guy is a wealth of information. He said he's got a bunch of trucks that run and to stop on by to check them out. Impressive fellow. He couldn't meet me this weekend, because he will be out of town. I want to get together with him the weekend after to check out his...

Oh yeah. Good ol' Frylands. I can't believe that area doesn't flood every year. It's so low in the valley.

How would I verify the sprag is working? With a typical 4x4, you engage the 4 wheel drive and turn left or right (on dirt of course). You can feel the truck pulling and pushing at the same time. Would this method work on a deuce with a sprag front diff?

Okay, here's a real noob question. Is there an actual classifieds section here on Steelsoldiers.com? I found the "Military Vehicle Stuff on eBay" section, but is there an actual place that members here can post ads for deuces they are selling? You guys know a lot more about these trucks than I...

Yeah, wsucougarx found the truck. I asked the guy about any rust in the cab since he told me the top had a tarp cover. He said the floor had some surface rust due to the missing top and that the seats had been reupholstered last year. 15K miles and low mileage. Is a sprag transfer case good or...

Good to know. I was kind of hoping someone local could give me some info on the truck. The paint does look like a solid shade of green and I don't see an exhaust pipe on the side. Do you think the rerouting of the exhaust will cause any problems? Obviously no driving it in deep water.

Hi all. Found this site after a recommendation from another forum. Looks like a very healthy and active place for all my deuce questions. I assume this is the proper forum to say hello. I'm 31 years old, male and a big car nut. I currently own a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, a 1999 Camaro Z28/B4C...
