I was able to take all of the venting and relocate to the passenger side of the motor. I "reconfigured" all of the parts that were on the original configuration and made it all work. I even had two pieces left over. All I did different was put a plug in the hose that went to the valve cover...
Here is one from my phone. Heading back up tonight to make a relocation bracket for the coolant reservoir, tie in the aftercooler, and run the intake and exhaust pipes. Note to all - when you add the fuel line tap to the rear of the head, make sure the pressure and return lines are in the...
So the motor is in now and she is running well. i will have more pics and updates soon. I had to get back to "work". been playing with the motor too much. Next starts the bobbing process.
Last night was more of the same, prepping everything for getting the motor back in the truck. I checked to small ports in the rocker box that lead tot he intake and mine were open. It was strange though because 1-2 and 3-4 had a small plug in them that still had a hole through it, it was just...
I have the flywheel and everything for the big cam motor. If/when it goes in, it would have a 10 speed RoadRanger behind it.
The 290 is going back in the engine can for now......
I was all for putting the 290 in there. In the interest of time and to see what happens..... I went with the 250 conversion. I still have the 290. It is an excuse for another project....
Just left the parts store buying fluids - dang. With new-in-the-can 654 Allison trans, new motor, PS...
I know I am not the first one to do this swap. I have obviously read enough back and forth on the issue. The problem I have with it is there is always two sides to the story. Some people say - no it won't work and you are going to blow your motor blah..blah..blah... but never seem to have any...
Ok. It was a long Friday + weekend on the build. we hit every roadblock that is possible and eventually called in the big guns. The guy i am working with works for a heavy truck dealer/mechanic and knows some people who know cummins motors from 30+ years of working on them day in and day out...
We got the motor out and on the ground last night. There were some questions both in my mind and from some of you about the motor mount interchangeability. You will see from the picture that the 250 mount is considerably different than the 290 mount. Also, there has been some talk about the...
I am not sure if you have your mind set on the transmission, but i have a perfect Eaton 10 Speed RoadRanger i am taking off the back of my 290 Big Cam. I have the bell housing, flywheel and clutch ready to go. Even has the yoke and half of the rear driveshaft. Call me if you are interested...
I have researched and found some who have cut the front mount and fabricated a custom mount (photo courtesy of A&H Recon - thanks for the help!) . I have not been able to find any evidence of these 250 mounts breaking. I know the 290 will have a ton more torque and power, but the rear mounts...
