Thanks for the tip. Planning on swapping bell housing and everything from 250 onto 290 and running the Automatic. The 10 -speed swap is a bit too industrious for now. Would it still need to be shimmed? Thanks.
Got the hood off, all the various and sundried items off of the motor, the trans dropped, ready to separate the motor from the bell housing. Not much more to report today, just a little progress on the tear down.
Well, here it goes. I got almost everything i need, with the exception of time, to start my 290 big cam swap. I got this truck with a "Engine will not start" rating from Kansas. Picked her up for a song on GP. Got it home and realized it had main or rod bearing that was a little too tight on...
Welcome from Freeport. I have several 5 tons, no M1008's. Good luck and pm me if you need anything. Lots of useless knowledge and tons of parts and "stuff" sitting here in Freeport.
Pulled a locked-up 250 out of a 925 tonight. Picking up my 290 tomorrow. I will start post when i get something to post. I have a cummins certified mechanic doing the work so i will keep everything as up to date and informative as possible for all of you thinking about doing the swap.
It ought to be interesting to say the least. Pardon my faux pas in calling an MK48 a HEMTT - along the same lines of calling any soft drink a coke - a big heavy 8-wheel drive military truck. HEMTT-MK-48 - whatever. The point of the conversation was to see if anyone had any experience in moving...
Shipping can be expensive, but do you know what is more expensive - towing a 30,000# truck to the nearest large-truck wrecker yard and repairs. I speak from experience, you can have all the military mechanics in the world look a truck over and unless they pack a spare...
I have a friend who recently purchased several MK-48 HEMTT's. He is going to attempt to drive one with a tractor trailer attachment, then tow a tractor only behind it with a HEMTT pintle towbar (IBIS Tek). Has anyone out there tried to tow a tractor only MK-48 with no attachment trailer? Are...
Thanks for all the great help guys. I have a 923 having the same starting issues. Took off the PCB and looks corroded on the inside. Just ordered my solenoids and doide. Was wondering if anyone knew what the diode was on the top left going to ground?
I won a few 200 AMP alternators and wiring kits for a HEMTT. Anyone got any experience hooking one of these up on a 5-ton. I can re-build, weld, fabricate anything under the sun but me and wiring don't mesh well. Thanks.
I bought an Oshkosh Mk48/16 trailer. I wanted the winch and wheels/tires for a project i am working on. Does anyone out there have any experience with the winch on these things? I am trying to retrofit on an equipment trailer and need to find out about hydraulics. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Just wanted to say thanks Danl. I have tried everything known to man to get my brake lights to go off and you were right. Moved the lever and all is well. ABS light went off too. Cant rememeber the official name of the lever. I thin kit is a mollie? Thanks either way.
I had some experience with this scenario lately. I bid on a bridge-builders boat and was not the winner of the auction, and the posted high bid did not meet the reserve price. Two days after the auction was over, GL contacted me and wanted to know if i wanted to purchase the boat at my...
I recently bought this truck and it had this mounted to the dash. It powers on when. Anyone have any idea what it is and is it useful/valuable? Thanks for the input
