I have to figure out an easy way to get the small kids high enough to get their hands on them. I had one kid jump and grab the handles. He just hung there probably realizing that it was a dumb idea.
Thank you! And thanks for the help! I still owe you detailed pics inside the gun box. I'll try to get more if this weekends car show doesn't get rained out. Most of the props go back in the house for security and to keep the critters from chewing things up.
The .50 on the gun ring is from US Replica Gun Company. It's a pretty decent steel replica that will fit any standard cradle. It's currently in a M23 Equilibrator cradle. The other 2 are from Iron Creations. Mostly aluminum. These are also in M23 cradles. Both have pros and cons and are not...
Not 100% complete but good enough for now...
I decided not fill the deck with ammo cans due to cost. The extra little stool on top of the demolition box is for kids to stand on to handle the ring gun. These photos taken at a local car show.
Well, I did manage to get the truck parade ready, but I didn't get all the bling done inside the gun box. Radio and VIC-1 are installed except for cab crew box. Somehow I'm a cable short? Anyways, pics inside the gun box will have to wait. These pics are from the staging area before the 1st...
So, the rail gun I built for it is probably a little over the top?
Seriously, it looks rougher than the pictures show. I did use old school glazing putty on the exposed panel edges both for weather protection and to hide the wood. I purposely left it somewhat rough to give the appearance of...
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement! Don't worry, there will be plenty of "rough around the edges". I will still try to hide the wood inside the armor panels as much as possible. Probably nobody would notice, but my OCD will notice.
I was able to fit the hatch up today. Even though the...
Getting there... Still undecided on how to do the rear hatch. The problem is my bed isn't even close to square. I've shimmed and adjusted as much as possible but the 2 rear panels are off parallel by about 1/4". The problem is the hatch is perfectly square . I'll focus on the rest and hope for...
Didn't get as far as I had hoped today. 11 out of 18 panels installed along with the pedestal mounts. For fake armor, these panels are not light. My 62 year old bones are hurting! The goal is to be painting by next weekend. I need to test the epoxy on the edges to make sure its paintable, too...
Panels finally being installed today. Long way to go, though. Pedestals arent in their proper location yet. Just using them as spacers right now. With luck, all panels except for the rear hatch will be installed by Sunday night.
18 panels all bonded now. Starting to prime everything. Slow progress as the weather is not cooperating. 50 degrees and rain does not help paint dry. Using a torpedo heater to speed things up, though
Update: Had a few warm days this week. Started bonding steel to wood. I was able to get 6 of the 20 panels done. I need to wait 7 days for a full cure before priming, but temps will be back in the 50's this week when I need 70 degrees or better. Still chomping at the bit...
Fyi... I sold my convoy lights to a friend in my local club. The plywood is sealed. Just waiting for some warm days to bond the sheet metal to the wood. I'm chomping at the bit to get this build done.
