If you go to this website they claim to be able to register it in Montana and be street legal in any state without actually residing in Montana. I'm going to look into it further when I get a truck. https://www.dirtlegal.com/
Very good information. If lady luck looks in our direction, we might be joining our USMC son at Camp Pendleton. No more freezing weather, and I already have a way to legally drive a HMMWV in CA.
Only asking because my brother gifted me 2 brand new yellow tops for Christmas. Curious if these can be used somehow, or if a specific battery is needed?
Yes. In Nebraska all you need is an SF97 or a road title from another state. That along with them inspecting it for all the mandatory stuff....Headlights, taillights, turn signals, ect...
Thank you for the advice. I have $10k saved up and don't keep a credit card. I wanted to get a loan for an additional $5-$7k to help build my credit score. I've also collected a fair amount of spare parts over the last several years for the maintenance.
I realize there is a good chunk of change in getting a vehicle shipped to the states from Hawaii but they seem to sell on GP awfully cheap compared to stateside. Do buyers just not want to mess with the shipping or is there anything consistently wrong with the trucks from the islands?
Been searching with no luck so far. Can anyone tell me which specific models had the turbo vs non-turbo? I'd like to buy one that will cruise at a highway speed of 65-70 mph. Finding a turbo model seems most likely to fit this unless I'm missing something?
I will certainly follow your advice. I'm not planning on replacing anything until needed. Just trying to figure out and research what options are available once something needs fixed or replaced.
Thank you and I certainly will once I get a HMMWV. I owned an M998 in the past but wasn't able to hang onto it very long. I'm trying to do as much research I can prior to buying another one so I'm as prepared as possible. Hence the generic questions.
I spent many years driving the HMMWV's while in the army but driving them and paying to maintain them out of your own pocket is obviously two very different thing!
For those of you that already have your own HMMWVs for a while. what would you recommend having on hand as far as spare parts...
Thank you. I've been researching the prices of replacement stock ones and there are more than pricey. Trying to work up a ist of spare parts to have on hand once I finally get a HMMWV in the next few months.
