Neighbor came over and thought I had lost my marbles :ROFLMAO:
They make exhaust smokers, but without the engine running, it's pretty easy to figure out where leaks big enough to worry about are. If you're really paranoid you could do the "soapy water in a sprayer" trick... but I think that's...
I noticed the other day that the drivers side while driving was a *lot* more "exhausty" than the passenger side.
I rigged up a plastic bottle with an air fitting and pressurized the exhaust system with 5psi. Had a moderate exhaust leak at the drivers side exhaust header + flange connector with...
> 30R9 fuel line seems to come up as various brands 3/8 fuel line for fuel injection vehicles on Amazon.
This is 1/4" for the injector pump under the manifold. It's commonly scoped for fuel-injected systems, but also handles biodiesel up to B100. Aka... pain in the ass to reach fuel line...
Transmission dip stick tube? It's right at the firewall in the engine compartment on the middle/passenger side.
Fresh transmission fluid is red.
Power steering fluid working it way up the steering column from steering box at the opposite end of the steering shaft and "blowing" into the cabin...
Been taking advantage of the nice weather and being stuck at home...
* Replaced blown water-in-fuel diode (blue tape)
* Replaced CDR valve.
* Replaced vented oil fill cap (which was *hard* to locate online. They don't make them anymore, and the normal Blazers used a non-vented)
* Replaced leaky...
Ah. damn! Thanks for the heads up. I found the 5-112 spec online, and I was kind of in disbelief that rims for a VW Rabbit would fit. That confirms why I had a nagging "that doesn't seem right". I'll bring some calipers out to the M101 and confirm the spacing next time I'm near it.
Correct. US M101.
Out of curiosity, what wouldn't fit about them if the bolt spacing was correct (5-112) and the width was reasonable? Collision with the hubs?
I've read putting radial tires on bias rims is generally a bad idea. (Radial lean outward more and put a lot of extra pressure on the...
Side note.. I tow it with a M1009 via pintle + M/T 31x10.50r15 tires . Thinking i might have a slight height mismatch? (the 235's are shorter than the 900x16's I've read.
The 2007 VW Rabbit wheels are also "High Positive Offset" :-| Maybe a spacer is also needed? Pretty much every 5x112...
I have an M101 with heavily dry-rotted / cracked 900x16 tires. The bed is rusted out a bit in the corners, but otherwise it's in ok shape.
The thing isn't super useful for me with the current tires... i've hauled some lightweight stuff in it in years past, but haven't really wanted to put much...
Nice! Thanks :) I have been scouring the TM's and couldn't find it anywhere.
That picture also helps with the orientation of it.

While I was pulling the intake manifold, noticed a old duct-tape wrapped block taped to the back of the wiring harness.
Pulled it, Looks melted, two pins, folded over with burn marks.
Any idea what this is?
Due to some excessive oil leaking around the top of the oil fill pipe, I'm swapping the CDR valve and vented oil fill cap. (found both cheap, and need a quarantine project lol)
While poking around on my "ever increasing quest" to swap rotten rubber lines (34 years in the Texas heat seems to be...
So, after putting up with a oil cooler lines (slowly) leaking over the last year, I decided to try and tackle swapping them out.
I had a new set of lines from rockauto, I went cheap (my mistake) and got the off-brand SUNSONG ones.
The old lines were "good-n-tite" on the fittings attached to the...
Ah. Thanks for the heads up. I'll cobble something together asap. I didn't know about the "not reusing the starter bolts" thing, i'll get some new ones.
Snapped some quick pictures. I replaced the current starter in a field.. luckily I have a garage now which makes things a bit easier :-)...
Nah, no clearance issues. Pretty much I was trying to get away from the filter as far as possible since it's the lowest thing.
Though, I completely forgot about the proximity to the FWD driveshaft. I have an inch or two so it "should be ok". Best case the driveshaft will protect it :-)
I could...
Anyone have any guesses why the starter on my M1009 *still* sticks? I've already swapped the starter for a new 24v one, done the doghead relay mod, swapped the neutral switch on the top of the steering column, and tested the batteries.
I gotta drive her 400 Miles next weekend, and don't want...
Just to wrap this one up... it was definitely the spacer for the filter.
Found a great vintage video taking the TH400 apart while attached to the vehicle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSFdFaIVeIc
The deep pan on 4 wheel drive vehicles has a spacer, the shallow pan does not.
It took...
I got that new stamped steel pan in this afternoon. 5 seconds of looking at it and I decided to keep the original one :)
That steel one is over and inch shallower losing a lot of ATF capacity. The factory pan has a nice metal ridge molded into it all the way around (including around the bolt...
