Wondering if any TN members are passing Exit 37 on I-65 upon return from the GA Rally and got room for a couple of 7lb each (new in the box) privacy tents I bought from Bobby (Streamline)?
David (Thundercracker) is getting them from Bobby and will bring them back his way (Huntsville), but a...
Didn't work that way in TN - I hit a stupid deer at 80 mph in my Audi A8L, USAA totaled it, I bought it back - repaired it and still have the original title without "blemishes" on it...
I average a shade over 16 mpg running stock tires and 75-80 mph empty and 11-14.5 mpg pulling my MEP 003A - again running 70-80 mph.
Those getting 21 mpg must be driving 55 mph or less with a "feather-foot" on the throttle...
I had long "cold" cranking times on my '86 M1009 and finally switched out my "old" style fuel filter base (w/ the pressure sensor) with one without the sensor ("newer" style ?) and now my CUCV starts after a couple of revolutions like it did when I bought it in 2000.
It helped to "relearn" the...
Stock CUCVs from GM had five digit odometers, so if you have a six digit odometer - it is a "replacement"...
I see this a lot on ebay.
DISCLAIMER: A five digit odometer DOES NOT guarantee it is the original odometer, like others said overall wear helps determine mileage - but sitting in sunny...
Earlier today, I just changed out the strikers on my '86 M1008 with Dorman ones (made in china though...) and on the pickups, nothing holds the threaded backing plate - you just reach around and hold it in place.
I changed out the strikers on my two M1009s and must have got lucky as the backing...
Like Warthog said: "injector removal and a pair of forceps"
I used curved forceps for removal and a long, tapered, pointed prybar to "bend" the tips into a curve. The prybar was used in the injector port after injector removal. The tips were "broken off" from the base before using the prybar...
"Calibrated Thumb Method" - I liked that... and the video said "usually under-tensioned" (I always worry about TOO much tension using CTM...)
Plus Dayco makes fine products. I DO need to invest in those gauges...
Thanks scottladdy for sharing!
No, no tension gauge used - just many years of experience adjusting tension by "feel"... :-P
I tend to tighten them firm initially knowing they will seat afterwards and recheck the tension later.
Yes, I'll keep everyone posted and these belts were NOT made in china...
I found a place on the 'net that sells alternator and power steering belts for our CUCVs.
I put these on my newly acquired 1986 M1008 CUCV pickup and they fit perfectly with the adjustments in the "middle range" of the brackets. Can't comment on longivity, but look to be pretty good belts at a...
I acquired a 1986 M1008 CUCV pickup from a GSA auction recently. While changing out the original heater hoses, I squeezed the short coolant hose that runs between the cross-over housing and water pump fitting.
It felt "soft", so I removed it and discovered it was split (cut ?) on the backside...
Never again will I install Wellman glow plugs in my CUCVs. AC Delco and Bosch replaced the ones below...
Some of you guys have had good luck with Wellmans, not me - so no more installing them in my CUCVs.
The first batch of photos show Wellmans with 6 months and maybe 250 miles on them from my...
I won a M1008 - my first win with GSA...
Congrats rumplecat!
I won a 1986 M1008 pickup too (Thurs night) and it only had a frontal shot and this write-up:
Year: 1986
Make: Chevrolet
Model: M1008
Vin: 1GCGD34J9GF397092
Mileage: 76481
1986 CHEVROLET M1008 TRUCK, 5/4 TON, 4X4, CARGO, 8 CYL...
During a starter change-out, discovered lots of slop in the drive flange assembly.
Pulled the diff cover and water poured out plus sludge. Ebay seller and infrequent SS member said "all fluids new" in his ad - yeah, right...:x
So, looks like I need both drive pinion bearings plus seals. I'm...

I was in the CUCV forum section, typed "glo-plugs" and received 21 pages of results. After reading the first page, clicked on second page and got the above message. Clicked on the fourth page and got the same message. Went to the...
