Actuator, Air Fan Clutch for M923a1

I'll check on that stuff next time i fire up the truck. If my governor failed and caused an overpressure, then maybe that's what took out the fan clutch actuator at the same time?

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

Well, maybe my motor is OK, then. It has a rough, coggy sound that I don't seem to recall hearing on my M543A2.

    So wrong

That truck makes me think of the old South Park episode about gene splicing. I guess the seller never heard that song by Loverboy, "Deuce and Chevrolet DNA Just Don't Splice".

Actuator, Air Fan Clutch for M923a1

Well, that's what I was afraid of. Since the compressor draws its air from the engine intake manifold, maybe I also have an issue in the compressor head that's causing it to leak back into the manifold when shut down? It just seemed like a weird coincidence that both symptoms appeared at the...

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

I stumbled on the hose clamp trick myself while wrestling with the rope to get it to fit into the clevis without fraying. Then when I re-checked the instructions to make sure I didn't miss anything, I saw the part where they mentioned that a hose clamp may be useful on larger ropes. Derp! I'm...

    Yards in southern california

Hmm, I didn't see military trucks in the yard on Beech on Google Maps. Just civvy cars and trucks. Maybe I didn't look closely enough. For radio and other electronics gear, I love to visit Murphy's Surplus down in El Cajon.

Old Family GRC Radios Little Parts Sources

I don't have a source for you, but I'm here to say "hi" from another boatanchor collector! I started off collecting radios from that era, before my collection grew to include both newer and older gear spanning from WW2 up through less than a decade ago.

    Replacing M936A1 Wrecker Hoist Cable

I had to take a break from working on the wrecker for a few weeks, but I finally finished the hoist cable replacement today. My first try didn't work out right, so I chopped off a few inches of cable and tried again. The second try looks like a winner. I still need to do a good, heavy test lift...

Actuator, Air Fan Clutch for M923a1

Looks like I need to dig into one of these now, too. When I shut down my M936A1 after doing some work on it today, I first heard an air leak coming from the engine air intake. Not the vent tube along the side of the intake pipe, but the actual air intake. It stopped after a minute with a humming...

Are HMMWV slant-back top sets still around?

I have already upgraded the rear suspension as part of my shelter carrier upgrade. I still need to dig through the parts manuals to see if the upgrades I made are suitable for a slant-back configuration, too. I swapped out the upper spring seats, coil springs, shocks and lower control arms, but...

    correct gaskets for filters

That 4061T258 McMaster part is for a Buna-N ring with square cross-section. They have Viton rings with round cross section as part number 9464K236, but don't have any square ones in that size. Can either square or round cross-section rings be used for the fuel filter canisters?

Are HMMWV slant-back top sets still around?

Interesting. I see they're still sitting on 8 bolt rims, too. Upgrading to radial tires on 12 bolt rims is another one of the things on my to do when I have the spare cash list.

Are HMMWV slant-back top sets still around?

Yup, and that's why I figure I'd be trading in my M923 for a HMMWV hard top!

Are HMMWV slant-back top sets still around?

BTW, I have a set of front "X" doors already, but I would need to get rear doors if and when I buy a hard top. Maybe I'd need to sell off an extra pair of front "X" doors when I was done, depending on what I ended up finding as a package deal.

Are HMMWV slant-back top sets still around?

Thanks! My current 2-door soft top doesn't do much good in the rain, either, so I'm not expecting the leaky turret to surprise me too much. I'd park the truck indoors anyway. I think I'm going to have to sell off my nice, new wrecker soon to pay some vet bills, and I was thinking that I might...

Are HMMWV slant-back top sets still around?

I'm not in a position to buy one right now, but I think I'd like to convert my HMMWV into a 4-door slant-back hard top configuration with an MG mount on the turret at some point in the foreseeable future. It's presently set up as a shelter carrier with a GRC-122 RTTY set on the back, which is...

Congratulations on your new truck!

    Another newbie in SoCal

Well, I don't have equipment or knowledge for bobbing a deuce, but I'll tell you what I do have: a dropside deuce that I want to turn into cash! ;) And it'll be cheap since the HH decided to quit working while the truck was parked during my home construction project, and I don't have the time to...

    Another newbie in SoCal

Nowadays, I live on five acres of dirt near Riverside that I call Mark's Green Truck Ranch. Back when I lived in a little suburban home in Lake Forest, though, it looked like this (click picture to embiggen):  Edited to add: You can't see it, but there was also a HMMWV in that garage! ;)

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

Great to see progress on the truck already! The engine only draws fuel from the left (driver) side tank. There's an electric transfer pump to refill the left tank from the right one. The wiring to that pump is badly decomposed, so it needs to be rewired before trying to energize the...
