Most common plumbing issues were air lines at the axles from bushes/rocks cutting them. Some of the LMTV's had repeated issues with the supply hoses going to the brake pedal getting pinched and cut by the cab movement. CTIS component failures were pretty regular as well. Never had an air...
Update. Reset the overspeed (which cleared it's light) but there is still no electrical power going to the shutoff solenoid/everything else engine related.
Typical terrain and one of it's uses for us on the demolition range. All of the LMTV's averaged 3 trips for repairs each year. Most of the repairs were related to the wiring harness usually either shorting out and frying components or getting ripped apart.
Compared to the m35a2's that the...
Pretty simple to mount whatever box you want on these trucks. The frame width on all medium and heavy duty trucks is 34" from outside of frame rail to outside of frame rail, just have to add the new mounting brackets onto the frame.
If you decide on a 5 ton tractor it might be cheaper/easier...
Agreed.
Not quite a drop in, but much simpler than many people keep making it out to be. Remember the medium/heavy duty truck market is like big legos, it's designed to be mostly interchangeable. The exact opposite of the 1 ton and lighter market where most stuff is unique to each vehicle.
FYI, any more than a split second shot of starting fluid can cause major damage. When sprayed at the air filter it can become soaked and cause a quick runaway.
I'd start by loosening off all the rockers and check them. Then measure the valves to make sure they are the same length.
If you are planning to drive offroad often avoid the LMTV's. Had a few on the demolition range and they required repairs on average 3 times per year. Not standard maintenance, repairs. Pavement driver all the time sure but they were poorly wired/plumbed for offroad use.
LMTV has a different...
Possible with the engine selection. Just going off the list of Cummins engines that came in these trucks.
On those 8 or so valves that are no longer moving, are they all on the last few cylinders? Meaning are all the valves after a certain spot no longer moving?
Depending on how much you are willing to cut 37"s can be made to fit at stock height, even with full articulation offroad. On a 4" lift it won't take much trimming. My old 3/4 ton at stock height and 37"s with some trimming, needed more.
He messaged me today. 2 lights on when the engine is not running. Low oil pressure (usual with any engine) and what he called the 'high rev' light.
Alright so pics for reference. When positive power is applied to the lower terminal on the fuel shutoff solenoid it opens up and the engine starts...
The physically smaller engine that you are using (compared to the Cummins 855 series) allows for the engine and trans to sit further forward, maybe giving you enough clearance to not have to move the tcase at all, won't really know for sure until you do the test fit. Looking forward to watching...
The 3 valves for the rear axles came in last week and got around to installing them today.
Plan is to mount them up nice and high, keep them protected while still accessible. Naturally there was no great mounting location or really usable holes (and don't want to drill through the frame...
Big cam 400 and road ranger twin countershaft transmission in m819 chassis. Only chassis mod was the front engine cross member. Pic is from this thread http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?18915-M819-RECEIVES-NTC400!!
Frame rails on these trucks are the industry standard width for...
Water/methanol, propane, and NOS injection should be last resort installs. Start off with an EGT gauge then increase the fuel and adjust the turbo.
Some of these trucks had the fuel turned up a bit in the military, others did not. Prime example. A company near where I live has a m936 wrecker...
Besides that first turn on Black Gap Trail it was a easy offroad trip, power steering would have turned that 11ish point turn into a 3-5 point turn hahaha. With the rock waterfall on that trail the deuce idled up it in 4x6 no problem.
With any expedition vehicle it needs to be self...
