A bad fuel shutoff solenoid will prevent the unit from starting I believe, I am pretty sure those shut offs are powered to open on startup and when power is cut they drop closed, shutting down the machine. You say it was started using the "master switch". This is the switch on the dash? Or the...
I am no expert on this but I doubt there is a 100 amp inrush on a 5 hp motor. I have been running a 5 hp compressor for 20 years on a 15 amp breaker. The wiring is 6 gauge but the breaker got swapped with my 50 amp for my welder. I had planned to put in a 30 amp breaker for the compressor but it...
I am sure I am one of those you are referring to and no, I am not laughing. I am 73 years and have had a couple heart attacks myself. I have also owned my own business as a repair facility which did quite well. I am very well aware of customer service. All of that said, you yourself said in the...
Holy Christ!!!!! The man sent you a known working gauge and you are still bashing him!!!! This is not cranky, this is evil. This is evil we do not need on this forum in my opinion, for what that matters. You are someone that will not take the time to diagnose something correctly by the book, you...
You do not seem to understand what I am saying about the gauge. Hook it directly to the batteries. Have it triggered by a switch on relay. You turn the switch on and the meter comes alive. No shunts, no resistors, nothing. It shows the exact voltage that is in the batteries at any given second...
What you are not saying when you keep referring to the high price of the set you got was the free trailer and free delivery! Those trailers are far from cheap!! they bring top dollar with the off road crowd. The genset is fully operational with a bad voltmeter. As I said before put a digital one...
And yet you are fighting everything that is said? We are trying to help but you seem to want to contradict all that is said. These sets are going for 3-5 grand right now, I don't know what you paid but they are 25 plus years old. Stuff goes bad. A volt meter will cost probably 25 bucks? If you...
I am going to go out in a bit and watch my voltmeter on my 003 and see what it does. It does not swing that I know of and those batteries on that set are FAR from new, they were having trouble in my Dodge diesel so I relegated them to this genset and they have no problems with it.
I will bet the batteries he used are 51R's these are in fact batteries for most Honda cars for 20 plus years, They are an almost direct replacement for the military 2HN battery but with twice the amp rating.
Pro tip, Never take the battery cable off of the battery while the engine is running in anything equipped with an alternator!!!! The resultant spike can take out all kinds of electronics on the vehicle/machine. This was something they did back in the days of generators on cars and it worked fine...
Keep in mind that you are using two modern batteries to start a rather small generator. The biggest draw is the initial 1 second of spinning up the generator rotor. After that there is very little draw. Coming out of two brand new automotive size batteries. I would bet that the total draw to...
Have you put a voltmeter across the battery terminals while it is running? That is a very simple way to find out if it is charging. You are WAY overthinking this!!!!!
If you pull a meter in my state you will go to jail if it was not an emergency. And a power outage does not qualify as an emergency. There are much better, and safer, ways to connect aux power legally.
And we ALL make mistakes! I have been a master mechanic for 55 years and just today I made a mistake putting a carburetor back together. We get complacent and we think we have everything under our control. I owned a shop that specialized in carburetors and automotive electrical, I have rebuilt...
To add to what Scooby is saying, The same transformer that drops the voltage from 6,000 to to 240 for your house will also raise the 240 from a generator to 6,000 on that line. Granted linemen will check the line to see if it is live but what if that genset comes online while they are working on...
THAT is why I got two years, that way at least I will not have to worry about next year. Yep, getting old sucks. And scary when I see all this Woke crap that is replacing us.
