From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

Got a late start this morning, left the campsite at noon. The deuce loves running on the gear oil/engine/hydraulic fluid mix, but does not like to start on it. Drove to the southern side of the Grand Canyon. The North side is pretty as well, traveled there on a previous trip. From there I went...

From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

That's Albuquerque. I thought about driving through to find the house that 'Heisenberg' had (TV series Breaking Bad). I'm headed up 180 to the south rim, will be there tomorrow. I've been to the north rim once. Today sucked with the driving until just before I got to Scottsdale Arizona...

From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

Seems like my speed issue was due to bad diesel that I picked up in Albuquerque. Back to running on oil again and 50mph when not having to work uphill. Camping in the forest about 40 miles south of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Gonna process more of the waste oil in the morning, then head up there.

Pulled over in Gallop NM for lunch and fuel filter change. Topping out at 40mph and 1800rpm.

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

The other thing about the tail roller is it prevents damage to the winch cable. Very useful. Even for stuff that's not on a skid, like spare tires. Guide rollers on the sides is a great idea quickfarms.

There's still water falling in the Carlsbad Cavern, just needed a better camera for it haha. Couple pics along the highway today through central New Mexico.

From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

Stopped just south of Albuquerque NM for the night, staying by a Casino. Was going to turn at Socorro, but the exit was closed and that tailwind was almost enough to push the truck down the road haha

From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

Haha far more comfy. Crowded back there but cozy. Went to the caverns this morning, walked through all the accessible paths. My camera doesn't do it justice. It is huge, and definitely worth exploring. The main cavern is easily accessed by elevator. I walked in through the natural entrance...

From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

I've got one of those tall air mattresses, pretty comfy. For now I'm kind of crammed in the bed with everything until the waste oil gets used up. I'll take a pic tomorrow in the light.

From one border to the other in a deuce and m105

Plan for tomorrow is to check out the caverns, then swing through Roswell and head towards Socorro, NM. Poured in 15 gallons of waste oil, looks like I burned maybe 16-19 gallons getting here from Midland. That's 175 miles fighting a head wind, maintaining 47-52mph.

Sold the 105, didn't need all the extra cargo room. Other than sand fleas driving me insane at dinner, first leg has gone well

    Red's deuce/camper project

Started the morning off by mounting the spare tire in the stock location. Cut the edge of the storage box off, cut a hole for one of the studs to go through, and pulled it up. Copied this from VPed.
