    Red's deuce/camper project

Beauty of the Rockwell axles is that they can be flipped, from a passenger side to a driver side. Pull the axle shafts, knuckles, pull the carrier. Spin the axle around, drill some new holes, reinstall assembly. Not a quick job, but doesn't take much fab work.

    Red's deuce/camper project

If the frame width is the standard then it will fit with no problem, I'll have to measure one of the 5 tons at the show tomorrow. Was looking up the ratio's on the DT650 series transmissions and found that they are a non overdrive model, thought it was no longer an option at that point. Started...

    Red's deuce/camper project

Been doing some research on transmission options. Auto's: M3060-rated for around 900ft/lbs of torque, has a .75 and .65 overdrive ratios (computer controlled). MT653-rated for around 600ft/lbs of torque, no overdrive. MT654-Higher rating, no overdrive. M900 series trans. Manuals: 5 and 6 speeds...

    5 ton recovery ft Polk

A gooseneck trailer rated to handle that weight would be another 6-8k pounds, placing your total weight right around 30k pounds. Way over your 1 ton truck rating, even with the trailer brakes. Call Jeep Sinker, he can help you out.

Diesel fuel distribution and oil filtration system?

True they are not as picky about filtration, but with such a short lifespan I can't view them as a good injection pump. HH issues, buttons falling off, the known fuel shutoff issues, mixing fuel into the engine oil, all common problems that develop with less than 40k miles. Most other models of...

Diesel fuel distribution and oil filtration system?

Most of the light duty (3/4 and 1 ton) diesels don't run a lift pump from the factory. I've never messed with the Airdog system, but the improvement of installing any type of lift pump on a diesel is noticeable. Extends the life span of the injection pump. However, unless you get a multifuel...

Diesel fuel distribution and oil filtration system?

I wouldn't call the IP on the multifuel robust by any means

    Fuel problems - SOLVED

What are your fuel pressure readings? Should have 4+psi at the fuel tank, 35+psi just before the secondary/final fuel filters, and 31+ after the filters at idle. Use a cheap oil pressure gauge for the higher pressure readings, readily available at most auto part stores. A standard fuel...

Moving from Texas to Bellingham Washington

Posted up the trip report a few weeks ago, didn't quite go as planned but that's life. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?138090-From-one-border-to-the-other-in-a-deuce-and-m105 Getting settled in at Salt Lake City, Utah.

Diesel fuel distribution and oil filtration system?

Installed a raptor 150HP lift pump on my deuce when both my in tank pump and booster pump died. Provided 55psi of fuel through 1/2" fuel lines. Works great up to 2300 rpm with the multifuel, but doesn't provide enough pressure to replace the booster pump for the higher rpm. A standard 100gpm...

    Alaska to Alabama in Brutus

Have fun on the trip! A few weeks ago I drove from West Texas up to Utah, injectors stuck open and brought my trip to an end earlier than planned. Spare fuel filters, fluids, and wheel bearings/grease will cover most potential issues.

    Red's deuce/camper project

I'll be over its torque rating with the engine swap. If I didn't carry cargo or anything heavy I would try it out. Plus my trans is in unknown condition now after the flat tow trip. Locked up motor and fried the clutch to the point you could feel the rivets digging into metal, either the...

    Red's deuce/camper project

Very true. I'm not cranking up the power much from stock (if any) but finding that getting up to 600hp is basically just turbo and fuel mods, no internal upgrades. Average price on them, finding for 2-4k as a running take out, with computer on the later models. Now to figure out the...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

It is a great spot for the outdoors! Camping, hiking, trails for horse/dirtbike/atv/rock crawlers all over the place and usually great snow sports as well. Agreed cattlerepairman, was not planning to do an engine and probably trans swap for at least another year, probably 2-3. I want to go with...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Little over a week ago but the latest update with mine. Dragged it to the temporary resting site until I find a engine/trans to swap in. Motor decided to completely give out and lock up while going down hill, fried the clutch with it.
