The Kia KM45 or KM450 series weapons carrier looks like an interesting copy of our M715 with a diesel from the factory. We need to twist KIA's arms to consider letting their dealers in the US handle the vehicles, if they were spec'd off our older trucks, one might be able to...

Most of the guys above have covered many essential points, but permit me to reiterate.....CHECK & MAINTAIN THE BRAKES!!!!!! These are fairly primitive trucks, but they can raise holy h--l if they are not kept up. They are not as agile as a...

I have also had the chance to examine a 1971 and 1974 Ford COE fire truck here in Paris, and they have steel dashboards, no safety padding anywhere on the cab surfaces, no safety equipment beyond seatbelts, they do not carry FHTSA decals anywhere on the cab posts, and...

Texas Dept of Forestry and Dept of Surplus sales does tend to rip off its users more then other states...... But then that's the Texas way, make a profit in everything you do and put it to the little guys.... West Virginia's DRMO liason officer could get us a 44 ton locomotive...

Good luck on the conversion, with the air over hydraulics, if you lose air you at least have hydraulics...... With air brakes if you lose air you are gonna have a surprising lock up, and you'll have to cage the brakes to tow it. I would think that the liability issue...

Mine has done about 6,000 or 7,000 annually, both the duece and the Unimog, and I feel that the deuce rides better then my wife's 2006 Wrangler Unlimited Jeep, which has a vicious bounce to it. The Air-O-Matic has done much to tame that beast, now all I need is 10...

Stumps & Co.:
THE CUCV's were built to military exemption on the clean air act and other applicable FHSA rules, the application was as a MILITARY vehicle. The FEDERAL government has the right to exempt themselves and their appliances from meeting safety and operations...

Is it possible that the purchaser may have had a need for a working off road capable wrecker of that size, and felt that the cost was a better buy then new civillian or used civillian? Just my2cents worth.

Thanks for digging up that PM magazine thread, I guess I am old technology bound in many ways. As to the comment on the cork wedges survival rate, my truck was last rebuilt in 1989/1990 for Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and as far as anyone can tell, the gaskets and...

Ditto the flushing out of the undercarriage and body with clean fresh water..... Look over the SeaBee deuces if you want to see rust! Have fun, stay safe,[thumbzup]

Dream on, baby.....:cookoo: The only way you'd make money with a deuce delivering pizza is to schools about two blocks from your business and you might make the 30 minute delivery time, barely. 8MPG in town, 3 gearshifts to cross an intersection, maneuverable like...

Ye old "Fruit of the Poisoned Tree" comes home to rest yet again! First Wisconsin, then Kansas, now Alabama........ The bureaucrats are making legistlation by the way they interpret the legislation, only the Courts and the Legislature have that power! Now we are gonna...

Even though it IS an old thread...... I am pretty certain the reason that the deuce doesn't have a roll bar is that on low speed tactical work it would be rarely needed... Besides, any truck driver that's working the truck in a severe off road situation probably doesn't have his...

Why mess up a perfectly good deuce when what you REALLY want is a Unimog? An S404,406,408 or U1300L will beat any deuce in off road work..... flat out![thumbzup] Particularly since you don't plan to haul 2-1/2 tons along with you, but I believe the U1300L might just be able...

Silicone may work for actresses, but the Army was pretty specific on using cork in the keyways to seal the hubs..... See the PM magazine cartoon on the missing cork on resources on here.... You can get the new cork seals reasonably from the usual suspects, White Owl Parts...

I kinda like the tan on the M1010, but then, I'm Prejudiced (See Icon annexed), and it IS cooler in the summer, ala Bagdad beach......:)

Try 4corners Transportation in Vancouver,WA, they should get it home for you and I've had pretty good luck with them moving a Unimog and a real story moving a deuce. BE SURE to tell them width, height, weight and length so their transporters don't do some boneheaded...

aua A combination of TWO historically significant, and probably very hard to find parts for, military machines....:-(! Restored, it would make a conversation piece at car shows, MV shows, and construction equipment events...... I have seen Bucyrus 10B's mounted like that.....
