I will measure it today, it is one of the newer covers, it has the roll up straps on the sides along with zippered windows on the end curtins, it is made out of the same rubber type material my last M101 cover is. I did notice a couple of pretty large rust stains on it as I was folding it up...
I am the new owner of a camo bed cover, it is still folded up in storage but I will go get it this week. Does one cover fit both the 21/2 ton as well as the 5 ton bed?

It looks like I may not be driving it home, I have gotten a bid of $850 and one today of $1400. I have called the $850 bid to clarify this is a 34000lb. twenty five foot long wrecker but they have not retuned my call. The $1400 bid was originally a call to move my furniture, I told her what I...
And Every bit of help is appreciated! I just got a bid to move the wercker for $835? Less than half of my other bids, I will call them Monday to see if they know what they are bidding on. That would be a hard price to pass up!!!!!!!!!! I still want to drive over and have a look/help load...
I think I am going to do the drive it home, if the truck is roadworthy. I will stop by the DMV for the tag, just in case. I could also wear some digital camo(I already have a hat) to throw the authorities even though I see very few 300lb. service members! I think I will stick to driving...
How much grief am I likely to get from the various police departments I will drive by on my 1200 plus mile backroads ride home. GL will give me a bill of sale, no SF-97 so no registration, I will have insurance but not tag!

My bother has brought up a good point, instead of spending 2 grand on a trailer ride, have a good local diesel shop tow the wrecker to their shop to make it road worthy for $1000 to $1500 and then I drive it home!!!!! What do you think? I could actually get something for the money and have a...
After geting nine bids on transporting the 543 to Arkansas the cost is down to $2035, no back ground checks yet on the carriers. I am shooting for $1500 or less. If I can find a backhaul situation I may be able to get my price? Jason I will call Ray Patton today thanks for the tip. I also...
I am ready to have a closeup look at the truck, since it is right out of the military I hope some of the tools are still aboad. I looked at two M816s at the Little Rock DRMO and both had the full compliment of blocks, chains and one even had a large towbar with a 24 volt light bar for the rear...
I was at the MO forestry auction earlier this month, in Lebanon, one of the five tons still had the block and tools in the side tool box. I was amazed, it was a large snach block, at least 8 inches.

Thanks MD, I am happy with it! I have been reading up on the EUC requirements, I don't see where the truck sale is rated A B or Q, where do they list this code? Being built in '66 surely it is not a cutting edge maint. threat to the country, I don't want to wait "No Stinking 90 Days"

Well I am no longer looking for a wrecker. I was high bidder on the 543A2 at Ft. Bragg. Now I have an 1100 mile road trip to get it running, at least enough to drive onto the lowboy. Anyone have a favorite shipper?

What is the difference between the M543 and the M543A2? Then the M816 was the follow up model with a cummins engine. Except for age what are the advantages and disadvantages between the models?
Thanks,
James G.
David:
Have you hit up any of the state forestry auctions, they have dozens of trucks of all types, and they don't mind you spending all day looking at them at least not in the MO, KS, AR and OK regions I have been to. Just a thought.

We bought one about six years ago it was about 15K for the unit, we used it to quick clean aluminum dies, worked great but it was high maint. and costly.
