I saw a Heavy Tow Bar on a M816 that a Fire Dept. pickup at the DRMO in Little Rock, the towbar was way more any one person could move. We used them in the guard to dead pull M60s and Abrams for short distances, mainly to get them out of the road and onto the shoulder. It took three hefty guys...
RE: Re: RE: ANY know what this is?
For mine they just used a Master power switch just like the one in the trucks dash. Does a great job on saving the batteries.

They all looked pretty crusty when I was down there. Which trucks did he get 21/2 tons or contact maint., the cont. maint. trucks looked like they were just written off and nothing was done to save them not even washing them off with a hose!
James G.
PS: Did anyone on the forum buy the one of...
Who knows? The broker says she has a guy coming to pick it up next week. THis is the same guy who was too late to pick it up last week, maybe he will be on time this next week. Eddie the head guy over at the GL site has at least been a sport about it so far.
James G.
Where did you get the bar and do you have another one???? Come to think of it I know where one is but I doubt I could ever get my hands on it??? I am interested if you have another one.

This cable was under the seat in the wrecker I just bought, it is about a hundred feet long. It has been about 20 years since I hooked up a mil. trailer, is this the standard cable hookup for a trailer?

Alright I am now frustrated, after typing a bunch of stuff about the wrecker(for the second time) when I go to save it tells me I am not authorized to make this change?????
James G.
Added mine last week, I tried to add several to the photo gallery too, but most were rejected for being too large, what is the size limit for posting?
James G.
But will they fit on my M543 with the same wheels and not alteration to the truck?
I am completely ignorant on tires and wheels so any info. is appreciated.
James G.
Ok, I am confused??? Would MICHELIN X 12. 5 R 20, XLs be taller or shorter/same as the 11X20 NDTs that are already on the wrecker? The reason I am asking is there are some for sale in Texarkana, going off today!

Can 12.5X20 tires be squeezed onto 11X20 wheels? Would being radials make a difference in the fit? I am thinking about mounting them on a 543 wrecker.
James G.
On a different topic, the tires on the wrecker have good tread but they look original to the truck, is it too heavy to convert to singles on the rear, maybe 14 or 16sx20? How wide a tire can you fit on the original 11X20 wheels?
James G.
Missed shipping the wrecker by 30 stinking minutes today! Had a drive-on-drive-off type hauler all lined up, finally worked out a cost of a wrecker moving the M543 outside the GL gate for late pickup and the d--- wrecker got caught up in traffic and did not make it to the GL yard before they...
Does the deuce and 5 ton use the same bows? I have run up on a set of eight bows with fiberglass vertical parts. These vertical pieces are over five feet tall. It looks like they were used without troop seats, what vehicle would use these? If I ever get my wrecker home I wonder it they would...
Is there a quick - down and dirty test for batteries. I run up on piles of batteries pulled out of vehicles all the time is there a quick way of seeing if they are salavagable?
James G.
One problem I was unable to remedy while I was at Ft.Bragg, the accelerator pedal does not return when you let off the gas. I sprayed Silikroil all over the linkage still it would not return, you could pull it back up with the tip of your boot and it would stay up but it would not return on...
Absolutely Right! I told my wife the trip over seemed a lot longer than the trip back, buying something as large and complex as a 40 year old wrecker without inspection can leave a lot of room for doubts and worry until you actually put your hands on it. I wish I had now stayed on Friday...
