There are past posts on those... I'm still waiting to do mine, but I think I'm prepared (unit is down hard with electrical issues)... My uncle just gave me a Caterpillar strap wrench that they used to give to every new Cat owner that looks like it could get a grip on, and remove anything...
If you're thinking of the widowmaker option (and I'm not sure that's it, but let's proceed) keep in mind that when you're in need of the generator, generally it's going to be shitty, dark, and stressful. It will not be a beutiful day, with nothing to do but think it through carefully. You want...
Yea, they come pretty small now... And man when they inevitably snap off, then you got some real good times in front of you, 'cause you're not going to drill those things out...
I'd be more prone to drill out the core of the screw to relieve it. Even better would be to use a left hand bit to do it.
Test everything I can first is the plan.
Then I'll put in the harness, and test some more before it sees batteries.
I should add that I'll be running through contact cleaner as well.
That many wires is daunting, I don't want to ever do it again.
The shell came home with me. Control box...
The shell I ran across is from an 813a, rather than an 803a...
-24P indicates no difference for the engine side harness, so if that's present, it would be ok.
-24P indicates a different PN between the 803a, and 813a in the control box. Looking at the schematics, and parts breakouts, the only...
And there it is... At least that shows me how they've indicated it on the schematic. Now I have the engine side number as well. If I'm lucky, the engine side is still present too.
I still intend to spend time with a meter seeing if I can find anything that caused this. It would be nice to...
Ok... Well this came to light here:
No Start - Oil Pressure - 802a
I thought I'd start a fresh thread with a more useful title to keep the further info in.
I haven't gone any further yet really. I expect it may be a slow evolution.
I found someone with a 803a enclosure that had the engine...
Drop in. If/when the time comes that I need one, I'm quite sure it will be at the worst possible moment. I will not want to be making any modifications in that situation. Pull it open, swap it out, button it back up, and get it running.
If I was in a multi unit situation, I guess I might...
Not knowing the original...
It's neatish on a quick look... +1
I do like the idiot light +1
When you need that fuse, you're going to be pissed at the zip tie -1 Use a twisted wire if you're going to do that. No tools needed.
Why, or why would you hide a filter that needs to be serviced behind...
If you're just trying to stop the siphon, without loosing it, a ball valve with the correct JIC adapters in line with the hose. If you want to let the siphon go completely, then a JIC Tee of correct genders, and a valve on the tap that you can open to let the air in.
You could automate it with...
And no labels... Nice.
I'm sure the experts will be along shortly, but I haven't seen that before. Hopefully they're all the same, so once you get it figured out it might make sense somehow. I suspect you're going to have to start chasing where the wires physically go, and work out the...
Well, the black was somewhat oily, after wiping the wires down, only the one wire was discolored. It's possible that particular piece of wire's jacket stained more easily I suppose. I will clip more wire ties further back to see if that continues.
I can't think of how that sensor/switch...
Back out, and back in...
Wire at the Oil Pressure sensor has been hot for sure. This is running to the Red wire on the sensor. Sorry for the huge photos. Phone is set way higher than the inspection cam...
Cause, or result? Can't guess yet.
On to other things before I'm out the door.
Cool and damp, but not bad to look around today.
I pulled the pinout for the J7/P7 connection that burned. I'm not quite familiar enough with these units yet to know what all the abbreviations are, so I wanted something that told me what was connected through there that made sense to me. This...
The category system for talking about these storms isn't great... That's really just tied to the wind speed, and while that's somewhat informative, is doesn't help with size. Helene was huge. Sandy was even bigger at 900 miles across, and not even a hurricane when it hit us in NJ. (nobody...
I will report back for sure, 'cause I'll be asking for help. I think I have nice weather tomorrow morning before I skip town, so hopefully I can do a little more inspection then.
Without any more info than you see, it kinda looks like a whole lotta heat from a bad connection in J7. Be nice...
