    802a - Battery Covers

Fans scare me too. I managed to get my hair caught in the fan of a saw-z-all once while on top of a ladder. Happened so fast I didn't know what happened, just that I had slammed my skull in to the housing. How I didn't fall off the ladder, I don't know. The only reason I get near one running...

    802a - Almost done...

Crappy day outside, so time to wire the outlet on the 802a. Because my use is both as a house backup, and then also to run some 3 phase tools as needed, I wanted one plug that can handle everything. It isn't code, because such a plug doesn't exist. However, an L21-30 will let me pull what I...

    802a - Battery Covers

I kinda like the idea of arc protection, but damn if they couldn't have come up with a more user friendly option... The floppy rubber units are easy, but then, they're so floppy, they might not be ideal... Where is that goldilocks solution? The radiator guards don't bother me much yet, though...

    802a - Battery Covers

My unit has 1 of the large battery covers. It's got a couple of the small terminal covers. Is there a good reason to keep that royal PITA, rock hard, battery cover, and is it a good enough reason that I should be picking up the second? (I'm not going to ask why the TM calls for 4) Is that...

802a Load Test, and Operating Temp

I flat out know this info is in here... For the life of me I can't find the right search string to enter to bring up the results... Just think how many posts are simply titled MEP-802a... Ok, so after the highly irritating process of taking things apart to replace the fuel drain well nut, it...

What did I find in the bottom of my MEP?

I had to work up a system to grind a crystaline compound down to the single digit micron level. It took running it in liquid nitrogen, and then in to a liquid nitrogen cooled hammer mill. I managed to get there, and then sub-micron, but the dust in the exhaust was a nightmare... Since it was...

What did I find in the bottom of my MEP?

My first thought was actually ARI. I was in one from my Dodge Ram a couple decades ago, and while I don't recall the specifics, it called up that memory cell. Trash it is. Do people find them of use on these machines? They never seemed to work well on the Ram.

What did I find in the bottom of my MEP?

So, while cleaning out the vintage crud in the bottom of the 802a, I came across these two items... I have no idea what they are, and while I'm not really concerned, I'm curious. I simply expect these are remnants from some prior repair that got dropped, or launched, and weren't easily found...

    Rodent Screens

Well, there's good news, and bad news... I got the screens done. Yay! Prior to that, I had to pull the batteries out so I could figure out what I was seeing/feeling right at the edge of the opening. It was in fact braid covered fuel line. It is the fuel drain line. I have to go through the...

    Rodent Screens

Perfect... Didn't get to it today, but hopefully next weekend.

    Rodent Screens

I've got mesh, so that's no issue. Is there anything around the perimeter of that hole I need to avoid? Things are a bit dirty, but it sure looked like a piece of fuel line along one edge of the opening... I haven't checked the TM on routing of lines, and it seems like a weird spot, but it sure...

    Rodent Screens

Ok... What have folks done for the rodent proofing on the bottom of the 802a? The two holes under the batteries are likely going to be simple. That big ol' square in the center probably more of a pain. I was kinda hoping to find grillwork similar to the sides, and top, but that was just hope...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

And.... I'm back. With no generator. After a bad start to testing when the owner snapped the knob off the master switch, we were able to get it started by removing the switch from the panel, and turning the remains with some pliers... Irritating, but not the end of the world, and I didn't...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

Right... Figured it had to be that... Off to the TM's. Don't know where I got the earlier edition.

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

Reading the -10 operating manual... Dated December 1992 Table 2-1 on page 2-3 lists the controls and such... For the AM-VM switch it lists: L3-L1 (1 Phase) as displaying Voltage of L3-L0, and Current as L3 L3-L0 (1 Phase) as displaying Voltage of L3-L0, and Current as L3 Am I loosing my mind...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

I used to have the tires... Pretty sure my '97 Ram 2500 would have worked. Alas I sent that to a new home 6 months ago... Still have 2 like new tires for it, but no wheels to put them on at the moment. I'll have to check with the neighbor if he's back from sking before I head out... I think he...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

That's good. Haven't read that one before. I'm sure I'm going to overthink the process, but better that than the alternative... Likely bring a good sized hammer, and dead blow too... Never like needing a hammer, but...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

Excellent. Those are on the list already. Don't see the crank for the landing gear in the photos, so I'll be bringing a couple options to deal with that. Load lug wrench is in the photo, so that's good. Air compressor 4-1/2" bolt to disable the surge brakes if needed. lots of zip ties...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

Yea, that's why I'l taking the back route, and staying away from I81 corridor... Sunday might, or might not help... Heater is a 240v (obviously). I'm going to put an L14-30 on there in hopes that is what is currently mounted on the unit (looks about right in the photo), but I'm perfectly...

    MEP-802a Buying Guide?

Well, I'm back... I had kinda planned on one of the offers folks here have made, and I may still need to revisit that, but you know how these things go... I found an 802a on a trailer within striking distance. I'm heading there on the weekend to check it out, and potentially pull it home...
