Bruce, The Red Dot unit looks just like the units made back in the early 1980's.
The issues we had back then was that the drains constantly clogged up then leaked water all over the place.
The installer wouldn't happen to be ERS would it?
Whats up with the same pic being recycled on the GL add on the left side?
The item description changes, but the same nasty looking trailer stays behind.
When you stop, idle the engine for 5 minutes or so before shutting it off. That will allow the turbo to cool off.
If it were me I'd also be checking all the fluids at every stop and monitoring the gages durining operation with lots of interest.
Did you purchase the caps for the CTIS system...
Only two ways to get paint to stick to stainless steel.
Passivate the stainless in hot nitric dichromate or sand blast and prime with wash primer then topcoat.
Paints adhere by one of two methods, chemical or mechanical.
Years back I was moving a 46' Trawler out of the Chesapeake Bay to its winter home in Cape Hatteras.
I fueled up in Norfolk VA before going out into the ocean to gain entrance to the Intercostal Waterway. About 10 miles out, the engine lost power and shut down.
A quick check showed that the...
What size and type of tire and wheel does this trailer use?
I was high bidder on one close to me last year. With a few minutes to auction close a bidding war broke out and I let it go at just over $1900 plus fees.
Nice trailer BTW.
She looks like a standard late model GM 8 lug wheel to me.
Oh! You mean like a military issue wheel....... It's all good.
Any recovery that you make it home without major issues is a good recovery. Ask me how I know??
If the rental truck has a hitch, this changes the dynamics.
Go to another rental company with your beater truck and rent a car trailer. Then hitch the car trailer to the rental truck and do your recovery.
Gas and tolls from NJ to Ft. Meade towing a trailer wont be cheap. If I remember...
You should PM Powerhousedeuce and have him scope out the truck for a fee. Matt is in and out of Meade just about every week.
If he is available, he should be able to give the truck a once over and let you know the condition it's in.
Depending on how long the truck has sat on two flat tires...
4 M101a3 trailer boxes are over 32' long, so you are going to have to get real creative.
If Justin and crew can't stack them, without side access I don't see how your going to get them to fit.
The only way I see getting them in the box is for you to stack the trailers upside down yourself...
Come on now wreckerman, the Cat transmission is a 16 speed forward and two reverse speed transmission. Get with the program.:cookoo:
Secondly we know that you hate CAT, both motors and transmissions cause they are Yellar as you southern boys say.;-)
The older trucks used the Cat tranny while...
While some like the high lift jack, I personally like a small hydraulic floor jack. Place it under the spring plate and it will lift the trailer more than high enough to change any tire you need.
Now onto the Harbor Freight pintle hooks, they aren't in the online catalog any longer. Search...
Just go on eBay and purchase a set of adaptor ends. They run $25 or so each.
If you don't have cables, I have a couple sets of 20' long NOS NATO cables with the two pin adaptors $275 plus shipping about $30.
If your air compressor can't keep up with your spraying, you might want to turn down the air pressure on the gun.
You don't mention how large of a compressor, either compressor CFM or tank size. A gravity feed gun will only require 15-20 psi to spray CARC type paints.
Turn the pressure down...
That's the beauty of hydraulics. Once you reach the design limit barring a mis-adjustment, they stop working.
My mechanical winches on the old tow trucks would run until something broke. Hopefully it was the drive chain from the PTO to the winch and not the cable releasing all of it's energy...
Best guess would be 200-225 lbs. The drums with hub weigh 50 lbs each. Backing plates with brakes another 12 lbs each.
Not sure on the axle tube, but I would think another 75-80 lbs.
Sounds like you might need to pull the hitch plate apart, clean and lubricate it and re-install everything. Also make sure that the apron is greased because if they are dry and are a pain to pull out from under a trailer.
Second thing to check is that the trailer and tractor is level or...
