Thanks for the reply Medlog. Can you explain what some of that means and how should it show on the truck? My tailgate, front bumper and hood show "USMC 1383429"
If it was from the National Gaurd, did they use different markings? I'm trying to find out if the truck is marked wrong. Also...
medlog, would you be able to tell anything about USMC numbers? My bumper and hood shows USMC 1383***.
Data Plate on dash shows: Stock # G2742-8358***, MFR. SER. No. ******. Mfg. 1953 by Reo.
Any info would help... I inquired before and was told, "Good Luck." So, I'm not expecting much...
Thanks Kenny for the Advice. I think I have a bleeder tool around here somewhere.
Mike, thanks for the link. Thats a fantastic and excellent description of what is done. Especially the drawing at the bottom of the page.
Thanks again for the help fellas!

Last time I went to Napa Auto Parts, they gave me the Disk Brake Grease and said that was it. I don't recall seeing any "Drum" brake grease... Will have to take another look. Do you recall what type of "Base" the grease you used was? Such as Lithium, Moly, Mineral Oil/Aluminum???
BTW...
Okay, so I got the Deuce on jack stands, and am working on both of the rear axle brakes. After removing the Wheels, I found evidence of my seals leaking on the drivers side for both axles. So, I removed the drums & hubs from both axles and found that the drivers side bearings were saturated...
Here's my catch of the day...
Ok fellas, here what I got for the yard. Fantastic finds at a very reasonable price. It was a lot cheaper this time than the last and I feel quite a bit better about it.
2 lifting shackles for the front bumper
2 pins for the rear leaf spring lifting points
1...
Ditto! Once the pin is sheared, its it and thats that. I managed to bust 3 shear pins total - all of which were from reeling in the winch and hooking it to the bumper. Except the lever on the winch doesn't like to disengage very easy and before I knew it, POP there it goes. Better to have...
Get a hold of Saturn Surplus. They have a bunch of the shear pins ready to go. About $3.50 a pin though. I bought 10 of them as I've already broken 2 when I was playing around with the winch. Just a thought.
Yeah Will!!! You MUST Come!!! Think about all of the treasurers and maybe new faces you'll meet! Otherwise, we might have to have to a moment of silence before we scarf down some taco's!
I'm about 90% sure that I'll be bringing a buddy with me who has a uni-mog and a deuce. At least he'll...
Cdub, Replacing the seals was a pain in the A**. Get a good solid impact gun (Ingersol Rand from Sear worked awesome!) My drive shaft bolts didn't want to break free but the new impact gun made short work of that with a claimed 1000 ft lbs of torque in reverse.
As for removing the seals...
That's what I'm looking for! Couldn't find it in the TM's I have. Must be brain dead or something. Will, Your the best! Sure you can't come to Fontana this weekend? I know you want to!!! Just say yes....

I didn't try to back off the shoes because they spun freely. Just couldn't get the drum to even budge from the studs. I didn't want to pull the axle because I've nothing but bad luck recently with this truck leaking all different fluids. Since the axles are not leaking right now, I didn't...
Any good tips on removing the brake drums without having to pull the axles?
The TM said to remove the tire and then remove all the outer (smaller) nuts and washers. Then pry off the drum.
Sounds easy, but I couldn't get my drums to break loose, even after soaking in liquid wrench. Also...
Quick question, I just replaced the pinion (Driveshaft) seals for all my differentials and the front of the transfer case. When you reinstall the 1-1/4" nut that holds the yoke in place, how tight do you crank it down? Can you use an impact wrench and crank it down till it seats and then...
Groundog, Exit the 10 FWY at Cherry and go South. Look on the left hand of the street just past the gas station and you'll see a taco stand with a Dirt Lot just beyond that. We'll be meeting at the Taco Stand. Look for my Deuce as I'll be driving that. It's not far from the freeway, so if...
Sounds like a plan then! As I said before, I'm bringing the deuce... Can't wait to see what I can get this time. Now that I'm a little more educated in the parts that I need, and that sunscreen is a must and to make sure that we bring plenty of drinks! Don't forget the tools too! Keep me...
BigMike, Let's see if we can get the fellas at the yard to open up for us on Saturday, September 29, 2007. Hopefully the weather is good because I'll be driving the Deuce down there. Let me know if you interested. I also have an new friend that wants to check it out too.
Anyone else game for...
Hmmm.... I think it means that your Squelch Grease is low... However, in some years, it did mean that your Muffler Bearings need to be serviced.
It would also be a good time to check your Rotary Girder as well!
Hmmm. I hope its not a main going out. I just dropped the oil pan today to replace the gasket because of a rear end seal leak. Turns out that there was no gasket on the sides and the cork front and rear seals were almost non-existent. I'm starting to think that the previous owner did really...
Think thats it. Must be a faulty sending unit. My sender is 30 - 245 Ohms. Thanks very much for the help! Will get another sending unit on order right away...
