I have a front ARB air locker in my FJ. To me it's like any other recovery equipment - a tool in the toolbox. The FJ has an e-locker in the rear, I use it when I need to. I have a winch, recovery straps, snatch blocks, etc.
Do you break things sometimes when you use recovery equipment? Yes...
Search for TM 9-2320-366-20-3 on Google.
Great step by step troubleshooting.

I'm quite happy with my clean truck lol.
But there's no doubt that 18yo motorpool kids work on these... and I do realize a clean and repair/replace is the best preventative option.
I've been looking for something that will work fast on 12 or 24vdc for an in-the-cab-on-the-go use... I have found that the element out of a coffeemaker base will go to around 200F :-)
Make sure that the valve linkage is set like this. Mine wasn't and all it took was setting it correctly to get the Cab Leveling to work.
The best TM for this is TM-9-2320-366-20-3.

I guess you'd have to see the truck. I've stripped the cab down completely inside for one thing and there is/was minimal wear on any areas where you would expect to see it. No accumulation of dirt etc under the instrument panel or under the fuse box. Everything in the engine area looks typical...
