It will pull it but it won't like it. On flat land it is not too bad but hills will kill you. There is not a lot you can do to get more power from the 250 Cummins without spending a ton of money. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is what it is.
I have two set of deuce front springs and a set of 5 ton front springs. 300 bucks each.
Spare tire mount from 5 ton with super singles, boom extension missing. 50 bucks (may be sold).
Chainfall for same, new. 50 bucks.
I also still have the M275 Deuce Tractor. I will load it up on the...
Nice truck and you are working her like a rented mule, just like the military intended.I
I really like the paint and chrome.
It needs some big chrome stacks to round it out.
Keep us updated on some of the hauls you do with them.
A quick lesson in military trailer brakes.
The older trailers with air over hydraulic brakes do not lock up when the air is drained off of them. If they are on uneven ground the ones with dolly wheels on the landing gear will wander downhill if they are not properly chocked. This is not amusing...
Work her like a rented mule.
I drove these trucks in Korea when I was in an armored unit.
We regularly hauled four tracks off the M1 tanks.
She would squat but that double breasted Driptroit would get the job done.
If I had the money there would be several of those in my stable along with a...
Wreckers are great and I'm fortunate to have the loan of an M936A2 to use around here. They are super for swapping out engines and for those lifting jobs where nothing but a boom truck will work.
One of the biggest but kickers on these machines cost wise is hydraulic hoses. I had to replace one...
That honor would go to the HETT.
There is a place near me that sells nuts and bolts by the pound. They have some of those huge hexagonal nuts in a big bin.
I considered buying a bunch of them, painting them OD green, attaching them to a large OD green chain and selling them at the GA Rally as...
Welcome to the Green Iron Laughing Academy.
I'm going to talk to you just like you were one of my young Soldiers when I was in the Army. Don't take this personally but as sage advice from someone who has been there.
I have been, at various times, a military truck driver, Drivers Licence...
An M934 cannot be shipped (legally) on anything other than a Removable Gooseneck Trailer (RGN) and they tend to cost more unless you catch someone deadheading back your way that will cut you a deal.
You will have issues insuring it as a "wrecker" unless you go with collectors insurance and they will severely restrict what you can do with it.
I had an M816 and my Progressive agent (I have a farm/semi-commercial policy) told me that if I had an accident towing anything except a cargo type...
I have a 20 foot ISO bed that came off a Marine Corps 5 ton.
It is heavy, I almost capsized the wrecker picking it up without using the outriggers.
It and a 20 foot container would be a no go for a deuce.
If you are interested in a M927A2 with the ISO bed installed let me known.
I didn't say it was a good idea......just that they will do it. They were built to keep up with the M1 Abrams tank. I have clocked an M1 on a tank trail (while driving an M916) at 62 MPH. He pulled away from me.
I hope they didn't move it around with a forklift. GL had a bad habit of doing that.
I drove them in the Army and for what they were built for they are good vehicles.
That being said:
They ride like an oxcart.
They are hideously hot in the summer.
They are loud. Get hearing protection and...
