I am looking for a handheld radio that will communicate with my RT-524. After searching here and other sources I think a Motorola MT1000 I found on eBay programmed with ( 42-50Mhz Split) should work. Is this correct?

If you wanted to try a cheaper option you could do walkie-talkies and headsets. The problem with that is the wife and kids would have to push the button to talk each time. While not difficult to do people not familiar with how to operate a radio can cause problems...
I got my setup from https://damagecontrolcustoms.com/product/vic-1-vrc-intercom/ it is a tested and ready to install system. You could piece a kit together from Ebay, and the web and maybe save some money but in the end I wanted a plug and play setup. Ruben's does NOT come with a power cable...
