Thanks for the links ARYankee! There was one I hadn't seen before and it answered just about all of the questions. Thanks!

    Axle seal technical question

Thanks for the reply. I read through most of those threads including the one with all of the step by step pictures. They were excellent and very informative. I guess what's confusing to me is the modern axles which use the gear oil to lubricate the bearings and these which keep the bearing...

    Axle seal technical question

So today we disassembled my driver side rear axle to replace a leaking axle seal. I was surprised how easy it was to break it down, get everything off and clean it up. We left the wheels on, removed the outer axle bolts, removed the axle shaft, then removed the outer hub bolts etc and removed...

Yes, the air scoop, couldn't think of the name. Thanks. GunBoy I'll PM you. earnie, when you say complete side cowl do you mean the entire drop down panel? And would that be with the punch out plate in place or with a scoop? Thanks.

    Side hood part

Anybody know the name of the part that covers the round hole on the driver's side hood drop down panel? Looks like a formed metal hood vent/intake. And where can I get one?

where to get dot5 fluid cheapest

I have two rear axle seals leaking. My plan is to tear down both rear axles completely to replace all wheel cylinders, all brake shoes, inspect bearings, replace all inner/outer seals and inspect brake hoses and replace if necessary. My question is this, how much DOT5 will be needed to...

where to get dot5 fluid cheapest

I'm getting ready to bleed brakes too. Is there a specific type of DOT5 for MV's? I heard talk of not to use standard automotive DOT5. Isn't DOT5 DOT5 no matter where you get it?

    While the radiator is off...

Great thread! My truck has also been experiencing overheating problems. Runs fine at idle and low speed but at highway speed or if there are hills involved truck heats to just over the 200-210 mark (which isn't too bad really but bothers me). I took mine to a radiator shop and had the tech look...

    Quick Compressor Q

When you say cycling on and off rapidly what do you mean by that exactly? What is the interval? I am having a similar occurrence also. It cycles on and off about every minute or so.

Fuel and Temperature Guages gone Wild!

Should I be concerned now? Everything was going fine after the guage repair. Yesterday while driving the guage crept back up to about 240 and I started smelling antifreeze. Pulled over and noticed the stop cock on the radiator was open and coolant had been leaking out. Was able to get home and...

    Generator Guage

Should definitely read in the green. Mine sits in the yellow when not running. When running it is in the green just to the left of the white tic mark. I have measured the output at the alternator with a volt meter and it is putting out between 28-29 volts.

    Axle Vent Anatomy

Here are some pics for those wondering what makes up the axle vent. After what appeared to be an axle seal leak, I took mine off to clean. Fixed the leak for a while but leak is back. Took the vent off again and there is pressure building up as you could hear the pssst when I removed it...

    Corner, Bows and Stakes restoration

I do have one question. In photo 6, the one that shows the metal corner with the metal bracket/clip to secure the cover straps offset from the center of the ends. Which way does the metal corner go on the upright, with the center metal bracket/clip closer to the upright or the top bow? Or does...

    Corner, Bows and Stakes restoration

For anyone interested, sizes for the uprights/stakes were: 45" long 2 3/8" wide 7/8 " thick I took the cheap way out and took a piece of peeling OD paint from the truck to Walmart, they put it in their handy dandy color match analyzer machine and pretty much matched the paint perfectly...

    Corner, Bows and Stakes restoration

Here are some additional. The old girl should should be pretty happy with the new hardware on her back. :D

    Corner, Bows and Stakes restoration

Well my cargo bows and hardware were shot so I decided to restore them. My stakes were rotted out so I had a buddy of mine make new ones out of oak and I painted them. The steel corners were in pretty bad shape so I stripped them with a grinder wire brush to bare metal and repainted them. The...

    Alternator not charging

My alternator went up last year also. I did not have the time to fool around with it and try to take it apart. I purchased one from the classifieds, a 24V single wire alternator from Avengeusa. I have been quite pleased with the purchase. It works perfectly and have not had any further...

OMG is that brake fluid or gear lube???!!!

I also had a rear inner wheel leak on the driver's side. Definitely gear oil. I cleaned it off, fooled around with the axle vent and the leak stopped for a while. After a few weeks, the leak is back. This time the gear oil looks like light colored chocolate milk. Hope no water got in there...
