I put a keyed battery cutoff switch inside the battery box on my M1090. Easy to work around if you know it's there and have some tools, but with it off, there is no power to the cab. Works great for shows where kids are climbing in the truck and randomly pushing buttons.
The other thing to keep in mind is the added value of going and seeing a vehicle in person. GP is getting better at descriptions but there is no replacement for seeing a vehicle in person. I got a 2004 from out of state with 2,700 miles on it and someone had swapped the tires out for a set where...
The handles aren't "zero tolerance" items, but there isn't much slop in my experience. The passenger side handle on my 2004 had obviously been worked on and was keyed differently than the drivers side so it had likely been swapped out to try and fix an issue. When I got the truck, the passenger...
Doesn't look like it is regiment specific. The tan one is a 2004 M1078A1 from Ft. Riley in Kansas and the green one is out of Ft. Dix in New Jersey. 11th ACR is based out of Ft. Irwin in California.
Also, both door handles are like this and I have seen it on multiple other A1 trucks from the 11th ACR. I assumed it was a factory install, but it is possible that is it regiment specific. Either way, it is a nice change. I like it a lot better than the lift-up handles.
I haven't pulled the door handles on my 1993 which is a lift-up to compare them, but it might work. You would probably have to change the linkage to get the lengths right, but it wouldn't be that difficult to fab them. I need to pull the drivers side door handle on the 2004 since it is keyed...
Thanks for this information. I have a 2004 with some weird electrical issues. CTIS works great but the lights on the controller don't work. The bigger issue is that the top row of my main instrument cluster doesn't light up. Finally, the @$#@ low air alarm doesn't shut off until ~100 PSI. This...
Goodyear 395/85/R20
Here is what a Goodyear looks like when they blowout. 2004 tire date with no visible external cracking or damage. This was on the intermediate axle on a M1090 FMTV. Truck was unloaded, going ~15 miles/hour, and less than 3 miles from my house.
I just picked up a 2004 M1088A1 out of Yermo, CA with the Blackhorse insignia on the door and some Blackhorse Regiment paperwork in the cab. Since it is a tractor, I assume it was part of the Supply & Transportation troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment out of Ft...
Find a good canvas shop in your area that makes custom boat covers. They can custom fit something for you that is either a slip-fit for when it is parked or something that is snapped on or tied down for when you are driving.
My M1090 was a non-runner. Starter relay was missing. $6 later and a charge on the batteries and the truck started right up. Truck was probably parked for an air leak through the front glad hand when the brakes were applied. Standard TM troubleshooting didn't fix it, so the truck was parked. $10...
The 3/4" armored plates are about 240 lbs each (1" are 320lbs) and it is a lot more work to do it this way than the standard slab armor (but it looks a lot better). Each plate has to be CNC plasma cut and have fourteen 1/2" holes burned out for the bolts.
Here is a picture of the crew door so...
If it is worth building, it is worth overbuilding. Plus, you never know when you will need to take over a small country.
A gunbox / hunter box is the crew protection armor in the back of a convoy protection vehicle. I think the standard is 1", but the extra 1/4" doesn't get me anything so I am...
