Replacing rubber boots on instrument gauges

For anyone else coming across this thread, the PN 235842N is the one currently recognized by Bendix. Also brings up more in google search.

Replacing rubber boots on instrument gauges

Great, thanks. I didn't come across that site in my search.

Replacing rubber boots on instrument gauges

Well that definitely could be the case. CS service wasn't much help, and tech service didn't seem to keen on helping out too much. I'll give that other info a try. Thanks. Have you even seen these sold other than mass requisition orders?

Replacing rubber boots on instrument gauges

@simp5782 , do you have any more info on that part #? I just got off the phone with Bendix and they don't have that part number in their system. Said it's usually a two part, 6 digit number like xxx-xxx, etc. I asked if it might be a part no longer made, and was told even if so, they keep the...

Replacing rubber boots on instrument gauges

I've searched the surplus sites, and tried searching here and google with no luck. I'm replacing the wiring harness in the deuce. When unplugging the dash gauges, I found most of the rubber boots on the back are dry rotted and crumbling away. The gauges themselves are good, so I don't really...

Am I gonna tear this apart?

That's some good info right there @Karl kostman . For some reason, I was thinking I had seen M-109s with AC units hanging over the cab, but when I went looking I couldn't verify that. Maybe I was thinking of the boxes on the LMTVs, or perhaps like you pointed out, the S-280. That seems like a...

Am I gonna tear this apart?

Hmm... That's good info in your edition of the pic @gringeltaube . Call that cab angle 7 degrees and that's a 7-8 inch rise at the corner. More manageable that my other calculation. We're pretty much building a clone of our current camper with some mods. IF we did a cab-over in the current...

Am I gonna tear this apart?

Yep, that thread was on my reading list. It's actually the thread that started me thinking more about the possibility of cab/camper collisions after seeing those pics. At 15 degrees flex, that's several inches of rise by the corner of the cab roof. By my calculations, at 15 degrees with a 63...

Am I gonna tear this apart?

I've read, and read, and read... and maybe I missed the answer to this question. If so, I'm happy to read more if you point me in the right direction. But I figured it anyone knew the answer, it would be here. The question is... I'm building a custom camper on an M35A2 (the one in my profile...

Is there a difference in canvas cab covers?

Thanks @NDT . I thought that might be the case. I wasn't aware that coincided with the insulated tops. Any idea if the canvas itself is a different size? Like, was the newer canvas that went with the center bows sized to take into account the bows? I have my eye on a canvas top at SECO, but he...

Is there a difference in canvas cab covers?

Hi all, I'm not positive of the answer to this, so thought I'd ask it here. Do all Deuce canvas cab frames have center support bows, or was there an older version without them? If there are two versions of the frame, is there any difference in the canvas for the different types. Thanks for any...

Dang, @jasonjc , you da man 😂 Thanks.

Finding the "good" wheel cylinder kits...

Thanks for that tidbit @tobyS . I hadn't even thought about that, but it's a good point.

Finding the "good" wheel cylinder kits...

Yep. Checked out Erik's before. He has this note in his description: Note- spring is no longer manufactured with tapered ends. You will need to reuse the original spring if the tapered end is required. I've not torn mine open yet. Hope they haven't been rebuilt in the past with straight springs...

Finding the "good" wheel cylinder kits...

Does anyone make the "good" wheel cylinder rebuild kits for the Deuce anymore? The ones with the cup expander springs? Even on the surplus sites, all I see are the straight springs. Did a search for UP45 through NAPA and it comes up with nothing. What about the whole cylinders on the surplus...

    Windshield Channel for Soft Top

I'm looking to convert my deuce to a soft top from the current hard top. One problem though... Looks like someone has removed the windshield channel in the past– the one the plastic strip slides into. Can't find a replacement one anywhere so far. I do have some crafty folks in my arsenal that...

    Correct TM for this alternator?

Crap. Army has a TM for tying your damn boots but not this... Oh well. Thanks for that info. I'm suspecting a bad regulator, but don't know for sure. Now I wonder if something like this (https://www.easternsurplus.net/PartDetails/5455/HMMWV-Voltage-Regulator) will work on this particular model.

    Correct TM for this alternator?

I downloaded TM9-2920-225-34 for troubleshooting the generator assembly on my deuce. Mine is AMA-5108UT, and the TM only covers the 5102. Is there another TM for the 5108, or is troubleshooting the same for both models?

    Third day is a charm

@cattlerepairman , I've seen the wolverine kits. Which alternator do they use? @Recovry4x4 , I thought about the submersible issue. Of course, without a fording kit I shouldn't be that deep anyhow. But damn, it's always cool to have the capability. Just in case. And yeah, I've learned my...

    Third day is a charm

Im planning to keep it 24 volt. Should've mentioned that. Yes, quite a leap of faith. Did get to look it over good a week prior. Seller drove it to work now and then and was up front with problems. Admittedly, brake line could have been ugly. Luckily it happened in the parking lot where we...
