TobyS, This is where I get confused (it doesn't take much). Is the reversing in low Transfer Case range problem (blowing up the transfer case) only with the 800 series 5 ton or does it apply to the 900 series 5 ton trucks as well? The other question I have is, if the military knew this...
That's quite the rig! So now we need to talk about where you are launching it. Will it be a paved boat ramp or just a taper on the shore line? If it's a paved boat ramp I would stay away from NDT tires. Those ramps can get slippery with alga and weeds. Super singles or radial tires would be...
Welcome to the site. You are on the right track. 2.5 and 5 ton trucks are built to pull heavy things. Take a look at Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Michigan, MVCCMI.org. We are located in S.E. Michigan. Come to one of our events or a general membership meeting and you will meet folks that...
Welcome from a fellow Michigander. If you are interested in a local Michigan group go to MVCCMI.ORG.
Welcome back to the sickness... I mean hobby... yah it's a hobby, I forget.
I don’t know much about the 800 series of trucks. When I was looking for a truck to convert into an RV. I was told to get a 900 because I pull a heavy trailer with it.
You’re going to have a great package when you’re done! Really like the tires. I use some UV protection on my tires. It comes in a spray bottle. I’m hoping that it works...
Food for thought: The 900 series of trucks are easier to drive, automatic vs manual transmission. This gives them a much higher “spouse approval rating”. My wife has fun driving our M934. With the power steering and air breaks, it’s like driving a big car.
I use Dynamat in the cab. Do you hear a notable difference with it on the hood? I also put 1/2” horse trailer mat on the floor of the cab. That really brought the noise down.
You have a local affiliate of the MVPA in your state: IRON SOLDIERS OF THE GREAT PLAINS. If you go to MVPA.org you can look up local groups. There are phone numbers for them there...
I used to have a picture of a Winabago that was set on a M35 chassis. I can’t find it now, but it was very well done. This bus build reminds me of it. How do we know this one is not 6X6?
This thing would make an excellent motor home.
Welcome to the best site on the web!
I'm confused (that is my normal state). Are the tires new or original? My 934 came with 10 tires that looked like brand new. They were installed 8 years prior to my buying the truck. The truck had a total of 5,000 miles on it. The problem was, this truck sat...
It was falling apart on my M934 so I removed it. I don't know what a 1/4" of foam rubber was supposed to insulate. Noise or cold temperatures. A 1/4" of foam rubber is completely useless for noise reduction and the engine makes it's own heat. I'm not replacing it. I might have an NOS one that...
