    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    clarification on the intended use of the wannabe For nearly 30 years I have been running AZ trails e.g. Chiva Falls and Charleau Gap with the same bunch of "jeep guys". Initially with a Series 2 Land Rover (what a piece of crap) , the last several years very successfully with the modified CUCV...

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    I actually do want to have a chance to survive a rollover, so the rollcage will be "real". The pics of LMTV cabs crushed like a beer can is pretty convincing. I am not going to race the truck, however it will see offroad driving in adverse conditions.

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    11_19_18 update Thank you for the kind offer, though I already have an extraordinarily talented fabricator: http://arizonajeeparmorrocksliders.com/ I agree with the notion that safety is first. So, the thought is to build a roll cage in the style of a "capsule". If the seats ( therefore the...

    53's on an LMTV

    That's interesting. We did not get resolution on the longer bolt tho. Will poke around some more, no hurry, I am allocating 2 years for the build as I am still working. That "job thing" takes up all my time.

    53's on an LMTV

    Are there other MV wheels with a different offset, but same bolt pattern as LMTV? And CTIS compatable to the LMTV? The offset would need to be something reasonable so the truck does not result over-wide.

    LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe build thread

    I like the concept. Its missing all the fairing stuff below the bed that a rally truck has, maybe its not done yet?

    Wifey says the same thing: "Where's the roll cage?"

    The added length of the 6-cylinder configuration does intrude into the cab, in the examples I have seen on the interweb. Search "CAT 3208 in Chevy Pickup" to start.

    So what is most different, aesthetically, before and after? Enclosing the back, higher stance w/ the open tire tread pattern, paint of course, lotsa lights. **Update Dec 12, 2018** I have this same thread in three different places. To make it easier for me to maintain, the continuation will...

    I'll start a new thread on just that topic: LMTV-->Rally Truck clone/poser/wannabe.

    Oh, I'd never race it. It would be a ~200 HP clone/poser/wannabe.

    The interweb has several examples of that combo in a chevy C10 and dodge p/u. With a torch + welder you can do anything you want.

    Highway speed? Whats that? :) I have owned an M109A3 and M35A3, and yes, the LMTV rides nicer and has better road manners. Of course it rides rougher empty than loaded. I will never use it to haul 5000 lbs of anything, so I am OK modifying the suspension or whatever. I'll check the cab...

    So I'll try the combination of lowering tire pressure to XCountry + ditch the giant rear sway bar. Will report results.

    LMTV SRW intended use

    One is not picking up a 17,770 lb truck vertically. You just have to have enough oompf to overcome static friction. That's how a "strongman" can pull a semi truck with a rope: he is not lifting the truck. Its true that weight is in the equation of static, then rolling friction. It helps the...

    Okeydokey. I'll check all that stuff, thank you. I think its Proverbs 19:20 that says to listen to advice in order to be counted among the wise, I'm good with that :)

    What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

    Why? I have read the stories of the plastic fan spitting blades--> taking out the radiator. It is not clear to me that there is a design defect, did CAT author a recall for this condition? Maybe the military wrote up a service bulletin? Probably in the threads somewhere, I will read them again...

    Swapped the spare for another with the same tread pattern as the ones on the ground, repaired the door handle actuator inside driver door, straightened a bent bumperette with the handy forklift, vehicle emissions test. Removing the comms box mount to make room for the 3rd seat that can go there...
