    Transmission swap ideas

I think the design needed to incorporate simplicity. If you could drive a stick shift farm pickup truck of the era, you could drive a synchro five speed Deuce. There was still conscription, back then. Stuff needed to be easy to learn, easy to use. The trucks, when new, probably could mostly keep...

    M35a2 Torque arms

I bought them from Erik's And not to dish the military comics on truck maintenance, but the test above "torque rod bushing does not return to its original position" means that the rubber has fully separated and the rod end is ready to fall off! Not much safety margin left there. Why chance it...

    M35a2 Torque arms

I checked my bushings several times per year. I read the horror stories of them failing with axle rolling consequences. Then I saw one of our municipal snow plows lose an axle when the torque arm failed. That is when I ordered the heavy duty greaseable metal joints and swapped them all. I...

    Transmission swap ideas

I know this has been discussed many times before. The situation is that the Spicer is really short and so is the jackshaft between it and the transfer case. There is no room for an even slightly longer transmission because of the already short jackshaft. So, you are into "move transfer case...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Ah....that could also be your batteries. If they are low/depleting easily, the alternator has to charge at a higher load than normal right after startup. I have a civy 24V alternator as well (Wolverine) and the gauge dropping into yellow after starting was what happened when my 2 year old...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

@Dipstick The stock military alternator has an adjustable voltage regulator. It can be set with a flat screwdriver after removing the cover allen head screw. It may just need a little readjusting. Easy first step (and belt-tightening is sure a good thing)...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Are you saying the O-ring at the bottom of the exterior part of the HH is broken? Do not fret. replacements are available, preferrably of the VITON kind. you should have three O rings to replace. They are sizes "2-230" , "2-227" and ".013" . All are "Nitrile" or VITON. Here is a thread...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Tie the replacement horn wire to the defective wire, at the bottom of the steering column and pull the new one through with the old. There should be a conical rubber plug at the bottom, where the wire exits. Make sure that plug is there to prevent chafing and a horn that goes off randomly. It...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Yes, you probably have a chafed wire that shorts to ground when it should not!

Looking for a hydraulic head for a M35A2

I did a little digging and note that the Chinese manufacturer is still offering these. They are made by Chinahanji and are a drop-in for our PSB6 AMBAC pumps. Old threads exist here; for a while these heads were on eBay. They have been looked over by people that know this stuff and found to be...

What would you charge for a steering gear and spring pack replacement?

Glad to see you are back on the road. The ordeal is behind you.

    M35 locking hubs question

Yes. "But....why?" is my question. Fuel economy? LOL. Not even going there. Hub and axle cost more than your fuel savings if you drive the truck as much as most people do. If it is your daily driver, well, different scenario. With the front rear axle locked out, the empty truck can get hung...

    jumping out of fifth gear

Just beware of "project creep"! Seeing you have the engine out already, you could..... see where this is going?

    jumping out of fifth gear

My job is insane. I simply need a series of projects lined up to stay sane. I also need to be able to pause projects...to stay sane. We live in strange, but interesting times.

    M35A2 C-Turbo

I think the War Whistle refers to a smaller size turbo for the 6.2/6.5 GM. In any case, the "C" depicted here is an aftermarket/import product. I recall someone much more knowledgeable than me on this forum giving them a very close look and he determined that they are well made, good quality...
