They used the 5 ton wreckers to pull the engine/trans packs in the M1 tanks so they should be able to handle heavy equipment as long as you make sure you don't overload the boom and remember your radius weight limits. The 5 ton wreckers will get stuck, especially in gumbo mud. They are not...
The van is for sure totaled.
I suspect the axle was dislodged from the spring pack on the deuce.
If you were anywhere else I say it was a cheap fix but parts may be harder to come by on the island.
It just shows that deuces are tougher than woodpecker lips.
It is a very, very, very, very bad idea to use the handvalve as a brake. If you are on the slightest incline and the lever releases the truck will roll. I had to Article 15 one of my soldiers for habitually doing that. His luck ran out and a M916 with a dozer rolled across the Motor Pool and hit...
Since you are from Florida you should have no issues if you go to a two battery set up. The military loves redundancy and being prepared for extreme weather conditions.
Use the highest amperage batteries you can get. Fabricate a good hold down system to keep them secure.
If you ever have to pay out the big winch cables you'll want that little winch in it's proper place. In the Army we usually made the crew of the tank drag them out just for S & G's.:naner::naner::naner:
It's what we do when we're bored and the old lady don't want to play bump and tickle.
Sooner or later the right answer will fall out.....eventually.......maybe.
If the frame rails are the same width you should be able to do it. You may have to figure out the wiring and plumbing but at least two people on this forum have put HEMMT cabs on 900 series trucks. I think it would make a bad azzed bobber pickup truck with super singles, twin stacks, air ride...
The first deuce I bought in 2008 cost me 2800 bucks......a very nice truck with winch, hard top and loaded with OVM. A few years later, when the government started dumping them on the market, I was buying good running trucks for 1000 bucks.
I foresee the same thing with the...
The most likely suspect is fuel filters. Some of the early 900 series trucks had a crappy coating on the inside of the fuel tanks. The stuff was soluble in diesel (never forget your equipment was built by the lowest bidder) and would play ell with fuel filters and lines if it got sucked into...
Walking directly on the roof might cause flexing and cause the old caulking to crack resulting in a leak. The first big van trailer I got had been walked on a lot (had footprints all over it) and it had several leaks. I wire brushed all the seams, applied silicone and spray bombed over it. I...
Deuces are gateway trucks......pretty soon you'll be trolling the auction sites looking for your next fix.....a 5 ton, HETT or HEMMET......you are sooooooo screwed.
Some of the big van trailers have a folding "back porch" that is made of aluminum and hinged to raise and lower. The last trailer I picked up had been so equipped but the deck is gone.....thanks GL.
What would be the point behind this? Going to plow the back forty with the deuce? I know years ago the Jeeps could be converted to pull farm implements. The biggest issue, in my mind, is than you could not see the implement you are pulling. If you just wanted to disc some land and weren't too...
I was at Camp Blanding this past Thursday turning in a water trailer, most of the HMMWV's ( more than 50 that were in the lot ) were picked-up by the "Forestry department" / "Police Dept" / and "????" just last week. What is left are now being moved to another location on Blanding so they can be...
