I started out by telling my wife that I wanted to purchase a 1968 bright red classic convertible. She wasn't very impressed. I added that it was a limited edition that was only produced for 3 years ish and approx 33,000 ever made. And still she wasn't too happy. Once I broke down and told...
So much for my wrecker plans. I saw a cherry M715 parked in a yard on my way home last week. Brought it home on Sat. The wrecker is not going to happen for now anyway.
If any one is interested, let me know and I can help you save this baby from a scrap yard.
Running out of options need some expert advise. Picked up my new M715 on Sat. About 5 miles into the drive home it started running rough. A minute or so later it would practicaly cut out completely and sputter. Push in the clutch and let it idle and it would come out of it. Get back into it...
Thank you to everyone for posting the interesting details. Not sure how proud they are of it or whether I can spend the $ right now but if nothing else, I'll find a home for it so it isn't sold for parts.
I looked at some of the other pics that I took and noticed the 5,000lb limit stenciled...
From what I gather, it has been stored inside forever. It had one main driver and he left when the depot closed but otherwise, it was his baby the whole time.
Talk about found in the back room!! A friend of my Dad's found out we had several military trucks and asked if we wanted to buy a wrecker that was left behind by the military when they closed our depot. We went and looked at it and my first thought is it was a civilian wrecker that the Army...
Ditto to Bruce's comment. Anytime we had to touch something painted with CARC, we had to use full body suit w/ fresh air hose. That may have been above and beyond but the fresh air mask is a must.... that stuff is really bad for your lungs.
They are a great truck with nice options with plenty of parts and addicting. Your 40 degree weather will not bother it. Mine has never failed to start all the way down to -4 f. With a 33" or 34" tire you can hit 58 and not sound like it is going to explode. Mine does seem to like diesel so...
Did the new head gasket work out better than the first time? I can all but promise the weather will be better in June. Even if it rains it will better than last time.
The location is Savanna, Illinois 61074. It is right on the Mississippi and across the river from Sabula Iowa (the Island...
This June (12th is the planned date) there will be a parade to mark the 10th anniversary of the closing of the Savanna Army Depot. Tentative plans are to have current military vehicles from local units and past MV's of all ages to participate in a parade. The last comander of the Depot is...
Started mine last w/e at -4. It was parked in the timber along way from anything so it had to go right. Cycled the glow plugs twice, held the about 1/4" of throttle and cranked. 4-5 seconds of that and it started.
I've noticed that if mine pops and I don't get on the peddle quick enough it...
Maybe if they heard them called CUT-V they would know. We still had them all over in the 90's. I really think that unless a person is into it, they don't even pay attention.
Dad and I were talking tonight and he mentioned the title. Believe it or not the title for this thing is still in the safe deposit box. He is pretty sure it is a 1950. Does anyone know if there is a market for parts? Not sure what all is salvagable. Someone mentioned G503, what is that?
That is awesome. Nice to hear some guys come out on top. I know of a Sherman tank minus the turret in a guys barn. He thinks it's worth a new house though.
