What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Is that the rig described in the TM? Doesn't look like it. Could you provide more explanation of the tools/procedure? BDGR

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

When I pulled my air filter restriction gauge to run a pyrometer I just tied it up and let it dangle behind the dash. It still works, I just have to get down and twist my head to look at it. Bulldogger

    Spare 6.2L engine question

I've been considering the same approach, but thankfully haven't found a donor engine. I say thankfully because the last thing I need is another project and a torn down V8 taking up space in my garage. Still, if you do it, please document it. It might make it more approachable for others like...

    What is this?

I've still got mine in the garage collecting dust. Will PM you about it. Of course, now that it's radio-related, it's worth its weight in gold... Too bad it's such lightweight aluminum...;) BDGR

    What is this?

Agreed, and thanks. My ride had a lot of antenna and radio wires cut out of it when it arrived, so it makes sense that would be there for protection of the antenna wires as they head aft. Bulldogger

What a cutie! Looking forward to the restoration thread. BDGR

    What is this?

Not sure. Had one in my HMMWV. The rear curtain lower hold downs were clipped to it, but I can clip them elsewhere. I took mine out so I could slide things in the bed farther/easier. BDGR

Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

Woof! That does sound bad. I hope it's something readily repairable. Please keep us posted. Some pictures after those parts come off would be interesting too. BDGR

Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

According to info sent me by another SS member, and my own recollections, I'm in agreement with papkb and DockRocker, the calipers on front are carried over from the AMC Eagle, but as noted the rear are improved to gain the better parking brake. Someone needing front calipers can replace them...

Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

And I stand corrected; the front rotors for an Eagle are indeed 5 bolt, not 6 like on a HMMWV. I had heard somewhere they were the same, but clearly they are not. I’m glad I bought the recommended pads from Hummer Knowledge Base, and not AMC Eagles.

But does it shed sticky mud? That is what counts. She does look sharp. Wanna paint mine? Virginia isn't far to travel, compared to Poland or Australia... Bulldogger

Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

I think Juan means the rebuild kit is particular to military brakes only. The brake pads and rotors for a 1984 AMC Eagle wagon fit the Hmmwv because that's what they started with, but if I understand the evolution of the M998 brakes they had to improve them and so the calipers departed from...

Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

I'm not sure about a civilian part #, but according to the Hummer Knowledge Base the AMG seal kit part number is 5744403. That might help track it down. http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/brakes/rebuilding_rear_calipers.pdf http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/brakes/rcr.html Bulldogger

With that description I'd remove and clean/rebuild the caliper piston assembly. Probably needs a new seal after cleaning gunk out. BDGR

    Advice in buying a Humvee

I had the same thought. This should be taken as warning that the seller has done little, if anything, to improve its condition and any claims of "I replaced all the fluids and fixed the xyz", or what not should be treated with suspicion, if the seller makes such claims. It seems like a lot of...

    Soft top from scratch

I wouldn't trust the adhesive myself since it is intended to stick to flat fiberglass or aluminum siding on RVs. I'm sure it does a decent job for which it was intended, but anytime I use something in a non-standard application I like to over-engineer it. In that case I'd use rivets or drill...

    Soft top from scratch

tobyS, just to share, I was searching for rain channel weatherstripping or something like it and discovered a product from TRIM-Lok that is a peel and stick PVC plastic rain channel just under 1" tall. Might be of interest to you. It's available on Amazon, search for TRIM LOK Drip Rail. I...

Need info, corvair powered vehicle identification

He is either very busy or distracted, which can be true and forgiven to some degree, or he's courting a less-savvy Rube to try to sell him a pig-in-a-poke. Either way, better to stay calm and detached. BDGR
