    Soft top from scratch

I told rustystud and I'll tell all here, if someone can get me one of the preferred boots to cut arpart and use as a pattern, I will see what I can do. I won't cut it up unless I'm sure I can do the job, or at least get it back together, of course. If someone has a torn or worn one, but still...

Rattle from front of engine. Alternator?

If you can't find it, I wouldn't be too worried to go ahead and pull it off (which is in the TM) and pull the ends off, it is straightforward. Clean it out w electronic/electrical cleaner while you have the ends off. Lectramotive is good, though pricey. The carbon brushes (the 60amp unit is...

thunk thunk knock knock in left rear????

Yeah, the u joints and carrier bearing are likely culprits .Not terribly hard to get out and replace. The U's are common Spicer, available from CarQuest or Napa. My local Advance Auto did not have them .The carrier bearing is likely to be found on eBay or true Hmmwv service site. I think I paid...

    Soft top from scratch

1000Denier cordura is about $6-7/yard if you buy 10 yards. 1000D is about 11.5 ounces per square yard. I make the soft slant backs out of it. Ballistic nylon is around 1500D and about 14oz per yard if I recall correctly. There is a CA based surplus seller on eBay that has black ballistic nylon...

    Humvee summer question

As bulky as HMMWV pillars and tops are I can see why they stripped it all so they could see and film the driver and pax! BDGR

    Humvee summer question

I go topless periodically during summer onths, but have never tried folding down the windshield. My soft top does not have a channel in the front, just a metal strip along the front that is held to the A pillar by about 10 self-tapping screws. As noted, it is hard sometimes to get them to go...

Ah! That would make sense. I didn't realize that but it stand to reckon. BDGR

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I'm going around the body sealing holes and other access spots for wind to come through. Wind whistles through the hole in the tunnel for the parking brake mount, for instance. I've packed around it but am going to make a boot for it I think. Using black plastic hole plugs wherever I see the...

    Hummerholic’s 1994 Humvee Build Thread

If the Noico is stick-on, why did you need to replace the mounting rivets? Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm nowhere near my HMMWV to look at mine to see if I can see the answer. BDGR

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Made some layered insulation using upholstery liner, a space blanket and some heavy nylon Cordura. Then patterned it and glued it inside my soft doors. I doubt it will really make a difference this winter but had to try. Bulldogger

Headlights keep burning out & will not cold start at all

Additional grounding, or a check of the grounding to the hood electrical connections is a good idea as stated, and I would add that you need to be careful with how you let the hood down. Many of us don't lower it slowly, but a good clunk of that hundred pound hood will jostle the filament in...

New guy with some serious vibes

We do both. We replace with surplus new and we hold the old ones for next time. Bulldogger

New guy with some serious vibes

Every time I tear a CV boot I replace the whole half shaft, as has been often recommended by RWH. It's such a hassle getting it all off and then apart it makes sense to replace the whole assembly, given that surplus shafts are still widely available. At some point our supply will start to dry up...

    Soft top from scratch

+1 for reverse! My first machine didn't have reverse so I had to reorient or move the fabric, trying to stitch over my previous stitches (to lock the stitch row). My new(er) machine has reverse and I cherish it. BDGR

    Soft top from scratch

I started making soft slant backs with a 1945 Singer 245 mod'd to handle outdoor rated thread and moved up to a 1965 Singer 591D200A which is still not an outdoor products rated machine (for lack of a better term) but handles the 1000D Cordura nylon I use better than the 1945. For my birthday I...

    LED's on my M998

Sounds like they're not hooked up properly, meaning you've got one or two wires flipped. There are only 3 wires going to the headlights, but they're labeled, so it's not hard to check them. The TM here shows the wiring, though it will take a little tracing to figure out which is High and which...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Finally installed a new fire extinguisher mounting bracket yesterday. Nice that the FX will stay put, as compared to before when I had it lashed in poorly with para cord... Also installed a Mk3 soft slant back design experimental version. I like it so far. Gave her a wipe down with WD40...

    94 hmmwv

The problem with the seller not knowing what engine/trans combination he has and whether it is original, field-modified, or after-market modified, is it raises red flags that he's flipping it and probably has done VERY little maintenance beyond an engine oil change. It took me several days of...
